In this Halo Infinite video we go over some Halo lore involving Jameson Locke. Spartan Locke in Halo 5 was very one dimensional character. Though there is more to the character of Spartan Locke than most people know and Halo 5 story didn’t provide any information. So with this Halo Lore video I wanted to go into the backstory and understand some Spartan Locke lore.

  1. Y'all really suck at interpreting stories. He doesn't hate him. He even said chief saved him once too so he's probably got nothing but respect for the man. He's just doing what he's told which is the whole damn point of the wack ass story. Big yikes.

  2. I think you are reading him wrong Kevin.

The way he sounds when he says that screams Regret.
Except he has his job to do.
You must remember he was ONI. They very very often left their emotions our side of their missions.

You can hear in his tone through the game, that he doesn't exactly agree with hunting of him.

Also UNSC/ ONI have a rivalry.
ONI are the ones who tend to own UNSC.
Due to how much secrecy they posess.

Alot of ONI operatives joined because of their lack of faith in the UNSC alone as well.

I believe this is brought up in halo 5s audio series

  3. Spartan Locke is ridiculously the worst character in the halo series he has no reason or motivation of why he tried to hunt down master chief and this is definitely one of the reason why I hated halo 5 campaign so much

You can go to the Act Man's channel to watch his full review of "Why is Halo 5 campaign so BAD!"

343 if you're hearing this please for the love of halo do not bring back Spartan Locke in halo infinite.

And I'll be honest with you I am not a true halo lore and I don't read books of halo a lot I'm more of a gamer of halo.

  4. He doesn't hate him. He said that line meaning that he acknowledges that he and the rest of humanity only survived because of Chief and Chief probably influenced his career choice to become a Spartan. Still hate Locke though.

  5. I still want Locke as a main Halo character just as long as his script writing is done better than Halo 5 and I also want his armor as customization in Halo Infinite’s multiplayer.

  6. I'm not saying that I want to play as him but I hope that Infinite doesn't just neglect Locke (or any of team Osiris for that matter) or kill him off. To me, that's just taking the easy way out. I feel like a lot of people don't really HATE Locke, they just hate that a lot of his story isn't explained and he's a more by the book guy so he comes off as overconfident and cold…Oh and we hated that we had to play as him and not the Chief for basically the whole game. IMO they can save the character by having a few missions or cutscenes with him or Osiris along side the Chief or Blue Team and in said missions they could explain more about them or at least make them all a little bit more personable. But, I'm not sure they'll do that. They might be too intimidated by fan reception to put Locke. Either way, great video!

  7. “You’re not the only one here because of him”. That line to me says Locke respects the chief. Locke is saying he owes his life to Chief. I.e. the reason Locke is present/“here” (as in alive) is because the Chief saved humanity. If it weren’t for the chief, Locke wouldn’t even been standing there. Locke seems to empathize with Buck, hinting that he doesn’t like the idea of having to go after chief any more than Buck does.

  8. This was a cool vid, Kevin. I like the fact you kept it compact. Sure there's always a lot to talk about since the lore is massive, but keeping these somewhat as compact as possible makes this type of videos a lot easier for more viewers to watch pretty much any time of the day. Thank you, sir.

  9. I never got the impression that Locke hated Master Chief. If he did, than 343 failed more spectacularly than I initially thought. The tone he had with Buck was pointed toward Buck, not Master Chief, because Buck was stating the obvious. Master Chief is a hero in the eyes of the rank & file soldiers and Spartans. Locke appreciated the situation of hunting the savior of humanity and didn't like how Buck assumed he didn't.

  10. Even with Lockes background and when in the context you used, I still don’t see that line coming from a place of hate, or culmination of it. It felt and hears like that line came from a place of conflict. Locke and Buck are only where they are at because of chief, the legend, that they have high respect for. Yet, they are the team tasked with bringing him and Blue Team in. As much as they respect him, they are going to do as they are ordered to.

  11. I mean Locke was born on a planet called “jerko7” so sounds like it’s a toxic place 🤣

Edit- yeah it’s a sad joke haha Locke is honestly a badass character just could of used something different maybe

  12. If 343 does kill off Locke in Halo Infinite, I have no doubt it being due to fans' hatred for him. And that's a shame, because there are ways to make a controversial character likeable.

Look at Ahsoka Tano from Star Wars – I think at first she wasn't that well received, now she's one of the most beloved modern Star Wars characters of all time. Hell, maybe even Arbiter from Halo 2 had a somewhat similar case, yet he's now beloved.

  13. Locke is pretty dedicated to the UNSC and has a ton of respect for spartans and hates doing the dirty work but feels it's necessary. Based on the live action movie/series they did of him before halo 5 that is. Which uses the same actor from it for motion/facial capture in the game but a different voice actor. Who knows though, 343 has not been the best in following their own lore. Depending on which books, comics, games, or animated movies, or that weird podcast style news reporter thing they did, the lore starts contradicting itself. The comics do tend to have a lot of the betrayal/anti UNSC story lines though with Alpha 9 and fireteam majestic and a few others all in the comics and having traitors.

  14. Okay so, so many people analyze the line "You're not the only one here because of him." I have no idea why people overthink it so much. From the first time i heard it untill now i assumed it just means "master cheif has saved ' all ' of our lives, so i understand why people wont like that we're hunting him, but we have to because it is our job". It's literally just a poorly written line.
