  1. I feel like open world would be perfect for Sonic, his emphasis on speed would mix very good with that, even with exploring it would be great to play. I hope they do this, it would be fun if they execute it right.

  2. Honestly, just small, compact, and easy to navigate and recognize hub worlds with access points to main levels and side missions in the worlds themselves is the best bet for Sonic. With maybe a free roaming world side mode for exploration and fooling around.

Sonic Unleashed and Adventure did it best; just have something like Tikal to be your way finder and you'll be good.

  3. For several years now maybe even longer than that, I always thought it would be the coolest idea to where you could play a multitude of characters within the Sonic Universe maybe even take 2 or 3 AI with you. (Think of something like an RPG. There are multiple playable characters but you can only take a few in a group at a time and you can switch off between those characters at any time you wish)

And just run around the massive open-world in the game you could do stuff like fight off Eggman's invasions across different areas, level up your characters as you Traverse the different areas in the game and get new abilities as you discover different skill sets with certain character combinations, and just sort of chill out and take a break in a massive online Hub world. With other players across the world as you take a break from the main games story missions. There could even be side activities, such as extreme gear racing (Sonic Riders), Companion based modes (Chao garden…PLEASE SEGA?) Remember the world map in Sonic forces and how there would be little objectives or you could take a person's avatar character and take care of certain tasks? Well just imagine if it was all gameplay? You and a couple of friends could pair up together and you can make your way to a certain location and help out other players that are in need of doing certain mini tasks?

Anyway, it's never going to happen obviously. But basically what I'm trying to say is I've always thought the Sonic series should at least try and open world game. With such a massive expensive universe and tons of lore it would sort of be a bad move to never take an approach with the one gameplay genre that excels the most and world-building.

I highly doubt Sega is ever going to make an open world Sonic game. Ever since the 2010s they've been trying to play it safe and I think that despite the 30th anniversary and what most people in the community are saying, I'm sorry but I really believe II won't ever do it, I am the bad feeling that this might just be another time of people either getting angry because the games suck or people not feeling as satisfied because expectations were not met or nowhere near as good as they could have been.

(I just hope that's not the case though…Sega, please make an open-world Sonic game.)

  4. The problem is that designing an open world for a speedster means that the map has to be huge. This would be very difficult to add sufficient detail to the world. Considering the effort shown in Sonic forces, I believe that a pure open world sonic game would be a disaster. An adventure-style sonic game would probably be the best way to go. That being said… I wish a massive open world sonic game would be made…

  5. A massive hub world in a Sonic game might just work. Have it set in Central City with the islands that the characters live on (i.e. South Island, Angel Island, Southern Island (Blaze’s world)). Maybe the missions will take place in the hub world itself. Perhaps take a cue from the first LEGO Marvel game.

  6. If the next sonic game is a boost title or adventure i dont care just as long as its good and polished im fine but still fan projects have proved that the idea of a more open environment game is possible sonic gt being a great example taking the idea of go for the goal but stretching out the environment

  7. My idea is just utopia(like 1.5x bigger) or adventure/unleashed hub worlds on crack with multiple levels and acts dispersed across the hub
    Maybe like Borderlands

The hub world progression(hub world -> different hub world) is linear but the stage progression and story progression is same as always, but they’re unleashed-esquires optional town missions around the big hub worlds and mini acts like the ones in unleashed to do and explore but the linearity is still there for people who want it

Also keep red rings for this, red rings help the concept of exploration a ton

There could be like 10 in the hub

    5 per level
And like 2 for mini act or town mission.

  8. I love how the announcement of the 30th anniversary party literally came out a day after this was uploaded and in this video he said we’re probably not gonna get any news game related

  9. I've been wanting an open world Sonic game for the longest time… That sounds more satisfying than the same old linear stuff, it's boring to me at this point. I want a reason to actually enjoy Sonic's speed. Or even Tails' flight. Or Knuckles' gliding and digging.

  10. Imagine an open world sonic game where he can travel light speed like the movie and run vertically up buildings and jump off for extra vertical hight and be in 1 biome to another in a matter of minutes. With parkour mechanics similar to lost world but ALOT faster. Just imagine the opening to sonic CD as a game and modern

  11. An open world Sonic game might sound good on paper, but honestly Sonic platformers need some boundaries, and paths, as if you could go anywhere at Sonic speed, and have everything wide open, chances are you'll miss something, go somewhere you're not ready for yet, or find yourself getting bored running around for hours in large fields unsure of where you should go, or what to do, or even going in circles, missing stuff due to Sonic's speed. I'd only like large open areas for hubs, that house entrances to levels like the "Adventure Fields" in "Sonic Adventure."

  12. Sonic's a Speed Platformer but on another video, the ideal Open World is a Boarderlands-style Map with many individual spots that lead into the longer Levels, you can start slow and/or fast in the main map but go as fast as you want in the Levels/Acts/Missions.

However for my Sonic game, I have it start like Sonic Unleashed in an Act, Acts or both but it's random in number then leads into a small but quite expansive Hub and you have these Acts after then they lead into a Boss Battle then an Act or Acts leading into a new Hub, probably implement the Tube paths of the Monopole from SRZG which connects to a new Hub/Area/City but in conclusion, I've chosen a linear Story-based Open World if that makes any sense.
