Why We Need MORE Video Game Remakes and Remasters

There have been certain things going on in my own life, as well as in the world of gaming, that made me conclude that we need MORE video game remakes and remasters. Some people might cringe at this… thinking that if it forsakes new IPs, that we shouldn’t have any more remakes/remasters than we already have. I think it’s possible to have a market for remakes and new IPs. Not only that, it’s necessary. Listen on.

  1. The answer is- No we don't. Keep buying the same games sure but in the case of the downfall of gaming shut up then. On pc I can play all old games whenever I want, the problem are consoles which don't allow you to play older games because no. I said enought just… yeah you have a game so buy this game again because remastered and looks better and our gaming is dead.

  2. You actually showed some footage of Syphon Filter, one of my childhood PS1 games. Almost everyone I've ever talked to about it has never heard of it. Unfortunately, I was so bad at 5 years old (can you believe that) I was never able to get very far. I would very much like a remake of that game.

  3. Top notch video Max. To me the most important thing is preservation, so that people can still enjoy old games without going through hell, like you did with the Legacy of Kain Saga. I think that remasters and new consoles ports are the priority, with big budget remakes to follow if the source material deserves it.
My personal pick for a remake would be the Witcher 1, which hasn’t really aged well (especially gameplay wise) and deserves much more love!

  4. You should play Xenogears and do an analysis on it, before Sony ceases the digital store. I think itd suit your fancy well and is certainly more than appropriate with your channels focus on deep, profound and thought provoking narratives and subtexts. The game was sadly not 100% finished, and its quite evident by many little things and the latter half of the game being mostly narrations with limited play. A remake for Xenogears would be a god send, assuming of course its not directed by Nomura

  5. Some stuff are better let go. I doubt modern creators would be able to replicate the Legacy of Kain series. The franchise had its time and deserves a fitting end. One look at what they try to do with it now and even a blind man would be able to see that they are not fit for it. The voice actor for the Elder God has passed. Developers focus more on graphics than story. Companies insert loads of microtransactions everywhere. Single player requires ploughing internet connection.
New people won't experience what the previous gaming generation did. They will just parade the hollow corpse of this franchise, filled with modern corporate drivel to squeeze out whatever they can from customers, before abruptly putting an end to their desecration, while planning to repeat that some years down the line.

  6. In my opinion the best decision would be to remake/remaster a game and also add the original version, ny doing so you can not only provide a fresh, and new experience to new and old players, while also providing the chance for them to experience the original again or for the first time, even thought i find it hard that the companies would do that. My biggest worry about remakes/remasters (before watching this video at least) was that by making a remake, the essense of the originals could be lost, and therefore it would no longer be the same game. But thinking about it this couls actually be a positive, as they could not only replecate the same experience but even expand on it. Some games that I would love to receive a remake: Okami, GTA San Andreas (a peoper remake) Shinobi III, Far Cry 2. Remastered: God Hand, Metro Last Lighter/2033.
Finally i would like to thanks Max, since thanks to you I know have a better understanding on the importance of remakes/remasters.

  7. I think remakes and remasters are often viewed as a replacement for the original and that's where a lot of the turmoil is. (especially when the original is rather inaccessible) There is also the notion that a poorly done remake can damage the reputation of the original and discredit its worth to new players and weighing that versus just having nothing at all most would prefer to have nothing. Personally I think there's a lot a remake and remaster can offer and with the precarious situation of triple A games being so sink or swim with their budgets it might provide some easier stability to offer more experimental games for innovation. As for which ones I would like to see remade, a Parasite Eve remake or even a remaster would be interesting as would a Primal Rage remake.

  8. I completly agree with you. At a certain degree i think that people who is over zelaous over what they play and want that everything stays the same, do a defavour to newer generation on experiencing what they did.
