  1. I completly agree, Frugal.
There are a lot of topics you can learn from games.
Besides what you mentioned, i would also like to add some more philosophical topics. You have to learn that some actions have consequences, that you have to live with (the Fallout games and Marvel Ultimate Alliance is an good example). And sometimes you have to do some real difficult choices.
You have the micromanagement games, where you have to think fast sometimes. Learn economics and also leadership- Computer characters can sometimes be harder to lead than your buddies on the web πŸ˜‰
You can also learn history. Me, for an example, loves the atmosphere around Assassins Creed 2. And it makes me wanna learn more about the renaissances Italy. (or was it my interest for it that made me really enjoy the game?)

They can also can learn from observe when other play games. Some years ago, i did participate in a study, where i was put in front of a videogame, with a small camera monitoring my eye movements while i was playing. They wanted to know what i was focusing on. I don't know the results was in the end. But it's fun that they can do some kind of science with videogames as a tool.

Yes, there are a lot of things you can learn from video games. Granted not all things are good. I wouldn't be in a car with someone who claimed they've learned to drive by playing Grand Theft Auto. πŸ˜‰
(Sorry, couldn't resist ending with a joke)

Keep up the good work, Captain!

  2. Really good stuff here to think about. My son is the same with Minecraft , he takes all my boxes and builds stuff. It also forces him to use the alphabet to spell stuff in the inventory menu.
