  7. If you guys want to find out more about Warcraft lore, I suggest Nobbel87's channel. He has crap tons of lore videos, including story recaps for the expansions, so you could get some idea of what has happened between these expansion cinematics.

For context that Lich King is Bolvar Fordragon whom takes up the Helm of Domination after the defeat of Arthas in order to control the Scourge and prevent them from destroying all life on Azeroth. Throughout WOTLK the question of who is in control is asked a couple times in regards to the Lich King(Arthas) and at one point it even says Arthas is nothing but a shrinking presence in the Lich King but that his presence may be the one thing that kept the Lich King from unleashing his full power and destroying all life. With later additions it's been revealed the Jailer(primary bad guy for Shadowlands) is the force behind the creation of the Lich King in order to give him an avatar in the mortal world and an eventual escape from the Maw. This plan is thwarted when we(players) led by Tyrion defeat Arthas shattering Frostmourne in the process and Bolvar takes up the Helm to control the dead as Bolvar is too strong willed for the Jailer to control. Sylvanas at this point is working for and powered up by the Jailer this is the reason she could beat the Lich King and her words in this movie calling Bolvar a usurper and saying he's unfit because he technically is as long as he wears that helm the Jailers plan could not go forward because he could not taint Bolvar so plan b was to use Sylvanas to break the helm and tear a hole directly into the afterlife(Shadowlands).

    This is Bolvar Fordragon, the new Lich King after the death of Arthas Menethil.
    During the assault on the Wrathgate Grand Apothecary Putress launched an attack on both the Scourge and Living forces (Alliance & Horde)
    Bolvar was dying because of the Blight but due to the dragon aspects he was saved but charred.
