In terms of Microsoft buying Sony, the equation there is practically the same as Bethesda, as soon as Google or Amazon start talking acquisition, Microsoft has to throw their hat in the ring.
Remember that while "Sony Corporation" is worth $120 Billion right now, "Playstation" is only about half (if that) of the total value. No-one wants to buy out "Sony", on the other hand it is an inevitability that Playstation will be bought out after Streaming Services overshadow the hardware based gaming industry.

Sony and Microsoft are segregated by game genre.
At the start of the PS4 lifecycle Sony killed off all their First Person Shooter and Racing franchises (except Gran Turismo because Polyphony is Japanese and firing them would bring shame to the company). I've been saying for years it's uncanny how clearly Sony has avoided competing directly with Microsoft.
Microsoft tired to push into the Action Adventure genre in the first half of the generation with Ryse and Quantum Break, but the media narrative at the time practically killed those games before they launched (not that Quantum Break was really top class, I remember watching the Angry Joe livestream where the game crashed in the middle of the final boss fight, but I still say if Quantum Break had released on PS4 it would have been given straight 9's).

I say Microsoft should just swap their current "Rumble" motors with "HD Rumble", and that will accomplish 90% of what people want from Dual Shock 5.
If Microsoft really wants to do Resistance Triggers, I really hope they just get the motor directly connected to the trigger pivot, kind of like comparing a Racing Wheel that's Gear Driven vs. Direct Drive. Top quality Racing Wheels are Direct Drive, which requires a more specialized motor, but gives the best Force Feedback.

PS5 is going to have a hardware sales lead of about 1-2 million units just by nature of getting started sooner.
Beyond the first few months after launch, it's a safe bet PS5 and XBox will be effectively tied for the first 2-3 years. I don't foresee hardware sales slowing down significantly for quite a while.
RDX podcast is the best podcast of the internet. And last of us 2 is not the game of year.
