Alot of the adeptus/adepti and beings created by Zhong Li went corrupted or suffer a lot. Others just forget about Zhong Li and not a lot of them have a sense of their parent near them. Literally NingGuang said she sees Zhong Li as a pawn that is smart and someone she can use in the future.
if azdaha, a huge earth dragon, became feral after so many years imagine the destructive power the geo archon could have if “erosion” happened to him. This mission made me think zhongli is not being lazy but protecting everyone else in case he goes insane

(PS it took Honkai Impact until Season 2 to enter the Depression Impact phase. Season 1 of Honkai Impact 3rd's storyline was the Happy phase with the Final Lesson being the ending of Season 1 storyline.)
