That was the whole point of seeing Jayce and Vi absolutely destroy the chemgoons with no challenge whatsoever, it’s meant to show how insanely powerful hextech really is.
Also, Jayce using melee and then the gun in the fight is an homage to his abilities in the actual game.
The boy was the button pusher. He ended up in the line of fire when the big daddy was running from Jayce.

The answer of why jayce didn't use the range mode of his hammer is similar to why people doesn't use bazooka when the enemy is close to them.
His hammer is not for combat in his league of legends lore he made those with atlast gauntlet for mining. The hammer form is for smashing rocks the cannon form is for exploding huge hole. And the guantlet use for lifting those rocks
Some context about Jayce. The reason you see him go from melee to ranged is because that's his whole schtick as a league of legends champion in the game. He can switch on the fly from melee to ranged and vice-versa
Powder has become jinx , but Viktor assistant has become powder , brilliant writing
I imagine Jayce's cannon depletes the crystal faster than the hammer form does.
I was annoyed by the wacky background music that was on @GETJaby, please remove it next time.

What's with the editing of this video lol… So many audio issues at so many points. Around the 9:35 mark onwards your channel music starts playing over everything
