In this Baldur’s Gate 3 Build Guide I’m going to be covering my Eldritch Knight Build for Early Access, and showing you what I’ve found to work best. I’ll be doing more Build Guides at the launch of Baldur’s Gate 3, but for now, let’s look at how you can use an Eldritch Knight effectively in the first Act of the game.

my EK uses ranged weapons and is high in dex and charisma, i go for a rogue type character with buffing/mobility/charm spells.
I appreciate your desire to walk others through games like these. However, I think the fun in games like these is the variety of outcomes. If we min-max everything, we choose a handful of options versus the myriad. I’d instead prefer you provided class introductions like you’d find in the PBH.
Let people have fun experimenting. If you equate this the real life, not all of us have the optimal ‘build’ for our circumstances. Thoughts?
Eldritch Knight, the wizard who got into school on a sports scholarship.
Cas, I’ll drop this here; defensive fighter subclassing abjuration wizard on full release for extra tanking and party protection
Ah yes, PHB Eldritch Knight before they added booming blade and greenflame blade. I guess I'll need to find a new gish for myself.
Anyone else create a character that doesn’t maximize a class stats?
I really want a heavy armoured vampire knight who can cast spells – think Vlad the Impaler. Lol. Does such a build exist?
If you go eldrich i highly recommand to use the circlet that ad 1d4 psy dmg on each missile for magic missile + give you one extra spell.
I found more potent to gogreatweapon master at lvl 4 as it increase your dmg outpout tremendesly (+10 dmg) if you where 2 handed. Math ad been done, and if you equip the lance that you found in early tomb, it will give you advantage if you miss target. If you suround ennemy, most attack are done at 55% ( vs 75 without the trait)
Too bad the Shield spell isn't in the game (yet?) It's the go-to abjuration spell for EKs and even Arcane Tricksters.
When I went to select weapon master feat so I could get flail proficiency, it's not listed. Why would Larian put a Shattered flail, one of the best weapons in the game, then not have a proficiency for it in the feat?
They should really change that headband to +2 int instead of what it is. I know BG1 and 2 had wrist items like that, but I think we should have moved on from poor design choices from the 90s by now. This completely takes away from what would otherwise be interesting decisions at character creation. It also just leaves you with 1 "right" way to play this build.
Also, you didnt get those wrists/belts in BG1/2 until later in the game, you have this by lvl 2/3.
Damn, 8 int? Your character is pretty dumb and then complete change in intelligence the moment they wear that head piece.
That headband practically makes int a dump stat, at least on EA.
Imagine trying to minmax a single player RPG. What a looser…
To everryone commenting about Shield, Booming Blade etc. As a cleric who realized that Spiritual Weapon hasn't been added yet, believe me, I know your misery.
I’ve once heard of a 3.5e mage who almost reached Eldritch Knight 2, but got felled by a kitten in a fair fight before he could get there…
Glad it’s better in 5e than it once was eh?
Damn, i want to play this so bad but i told myself that i will wait for the full Release.
But i cant stand waiting for it so long, really want to play it.
Im aware that it is Early Access and it is still in Development, not expecting a finished Product here, just want to have Fun with different Builds, the Char Editor etc. To you Guys who own it, would you recommend me to wait or get it right away?
The feat at 4 lvl "Great Weapon Master" is not working well. It say "When a melee attack scores a critical hit or kills a creature, you can make another melee attack as a bonus action. When attacking with Heavy Weapons you are proficient with, attack rolls take a -5 penalty, but their damage increases by 10." but when i kill a creature i can't make another attack on my bonus action.
I wanna be a sex dwarf.
There is chain mail dropped by dueregar in the underdark which has 16 AC 3:02
mirror image is annoying but scorching ray is a better solution then MM since it will rip through the illusions
Is lvl 4 a milestone lvl? I didnt lvl on my warlock to 4 when the xp bars were filled….or was the game glitching
I ended up dying and starting a ranger anyway……..my warlock was killed in an area that saved with a red skull
As a fan of "magic fighters" and a Wizard EK main in DDO I feel like the 5e EK in BG3 feels really bad.
I get my EK fix by playing a Warlock turned fighter for the sweet, actual, Eldritch Knight roleplay.
The EK in BG feels more like a Magister or an Arcane Brawler.
Might be the low level cap too though.
You can make a pretty nice dex based elditch knight by taking an high elf
I prefer to build it as a high elf. Then go dex and con and int. Then use a dex type weapon like a rapier. With the cantrip at level 1 makes it feel like an eldritch knight right away!
yeah but, its a trash subclass…
I remember when in D&D wizards were wizards and fighters were fighters..
I do hope they are going to explore the Psionics class m/
I'm hoping that this will have a multiplayer world forge. So that we can actually play dnd online, run mods and hardcovers using the assets from the game
One thing I rarely see mentioned is that bonuses only increase at even levels, so if you play a race that gives you a 17 and a bunch of other even stats, then it's pointless taking the ability score increase, go for the half ASI feats that give you a new ability plus a 1 point increase in something like Dex, Str, or Con.
I would say human works well for a eldritch knight as well. while most builds tend to be bad on default human, eldritch knight can utilize str, dex, con, and int, and cha and wis tend to be generally nice for check, so you can maximize your use of the +1 to all.
There is Chain mail in early access. Not chain shirt but chain mail. It has AC 16 is considered heavy armor and gives 0 dex bonus. Overall It is 1 AC less than the Githyanki halfplate with +2 to AC from DEX. However it allows you to spend those points in Dex somewhere else.
The best way is to get the +18 int circle is:
1. make a deal with the ogres.
2. summon them to fight for you, pay them each time.
3. As the third (last) fight you summoned them to, is about to end, you kill the mage ogre.
4. Loot the Circle AND loot back the money you paid them for fighting.
Best armour is from the blacksmith at the druids' grove it is +1 banded so also has better def: against ranged weapons.
Amazing work! Thanks Fextralife, really appreciate your content
Potentially broken combo:
Pick the shattered flail which heals 1d6 for every hit you make. Currently all weapons apply their passives broadly so spells and offhand weapons will also heal for 1d6. and.. magic missiles will trigger this 3 times to a total of 3d6 plus your bonus action 10 heal you ll be really hard to kill 🙂
You only need to max dex and int, best option is high elf or wood elf because of proficiencies. Dex nets you the most benefit of all stats in the game. Dual wield best finesse weapons you can find in the game and get ac as high as possible. Choose all the proper self buffs and stuff that has until rested duration. If you build it right most enemies will have a lot of trouble hitting you more often than not while you can do good dmg dual wielding. The other option is getting AC even higher with a shield and best one handed finesse weapon.
so with necro spells you can make it a death knight. false life, chill touch, etc
An eldritch knight is basically an inferior hexblade warlock with an even more limited spell list. If you want to cast spells, be a Wizard. If you want to beat the crap out of things with a sword or war hammer, be a fighter or barbarian. If you insist on being that in-between, spellblade kinda experience, be a hexblade Warlock with Pact of the Blade.
Hopefully they add shocking grasp is my preferred offensive cantrip with booming blade to make a storm knight.(Thor)
DnD 5e. Warlock = Charisma based spellcasting! Int for skills only
I hope they make rare item drops, such as that int 18 headband, random. I'm so tired of powergaming, i always feel stressed out that i missed something crucial. I just wanna go into the game play whatever i like maybe i make the journey maybe i dont. What i dont want is to build a char after what items i know i can get at a certain place. Then its a game of quest for the holy grail, but you know where the grail is. You char should make whatever item they find usefull not the item make your character usefull. Sry for the rant, i like your videos! They are all so helpful.
for real tutorial on how to become an min-maxer. go to the dnd fan base reddit pages they have been training and studing for year to build the most overpowered characters their are.
Idk man. Battle Master is so damn good hard to pick anything else
