  2. Yeah with the emphasis on verticality shove needs a nerf as it effectively kills as a bonus action or ccs while they spend 5 rounds gettinh back up. Probably needs to be a full action to attempt to shove off.

be right i'll just play the old ones and pathfinder…shoulda just called it DND…taking the baldurs gate name for this rubbish is an insult

  4. I realise its in early access, and I am hoping things will change. One of the reasons Larian didn’t take on real time combat like the original BG1 & BG2 was to be true to D&D rules by their own admission. However, this is no D&D it’s a hybrid of D&D and DOS. And doesn’t always follow the correct rule set that they promised.
I am hoping they add in the rest of the classes missing like a paladin, and races like the dragonborn, which I am sure is coming. Currently buggy with poor animations. The unlimited arrows make for boring adventuring not having to ensure your party is well equipped before setting forth. The standard Gold acquired instead of traditional D&D cp sp ep gp pp needs to change as the current economy in the game is wrong. And unrealistic number of magical items everywhere wreak of DOS and immature writers that I feared. If every weapon is magical it really takes away the excitement of finding something special after a boss fight. There is no "identify" or attunement to any equipment you find. Its basically plug in and play. Animation of picking up loot from the ground looks bad. It reminds me of a Jedi, just hit collect on a item that's 10 meters away and the force will bring it to your hand. I scream (GET OVER HERE) like scorpion each time.

Your companions hate you, I almost want to tell the entire party to $#FK off and ill go solo. Does every combat need grease and a firebomb to ignite the entire ground like DOS? Common get original guys. I am waiting for water and electricity combination next. Characters that are knocked unconscious currently in the rules is incorrect, If applying first aid, the said Characters should remain unconscious and heals 1 hp every 1d4 hours after being stabilised, in this game they auto heal 1 hp without a 10 wisdom (Medicine) check, it really takes away the seriousness of being close to death and too easy return to combat. The animation of shooting arrows frustrates me like it did in DOS, its unrealistic the amount of curve the arrow has, and needs to hit with more impact. seriously 1 meter shot and it bends it like Beckham. So to say they didn’t want real time and wanted “turn base to stay true to the rules” was so far misleading, and nothing more than to satisfy their own gaming engine that was already built. Which is okay, but needs a lot of improvement if it is to uphold the grandeur of BG1 and BG2. I am hoping they turn it around, ill attempt to complete the game if i can, and if the above mentioned issue's resolve ill gladly change my review, but I highly doubt it.

    Bhaal would not be happy.

  5. Basically what it comes down to is this; if you just wanted Divinity 3 then you're in luck. It's here and it just so happens to have a legit fantasy brand behind it this time, it's pretty much Divinity 3: Dragon Age. If you really wanted Baldur's Gate 3, as in an actual sequel to one of the most beloved rpg franchises of all time, you are 100% completely out of luck because this game has about as much to do with Baldur's Gate as Call of Duty does.

And if you didn't care about any of those, and just wanted a somewhat decent kind of representation of what pen and paper DnD is, then you are somewhat kind of in luck because this is a bit of a "DnD experience simulator", rather than an actual DnD experience. The dice rolls are all done behind the scenes, even when the game is pretending to show you a dice roll what you're seeing is not a representation of the rolls done off screen. The game, just like every Larian game, can be cheesed to absolutely outland degrees between the Jump and verticality mechanics. Which is something I very much knew was going to happen, and it genuinely bothers me that I was right about that one. And also, something more subjective to me, is that I find the companions to be insufferable. That's one thing I personally have never enjoyed from any Larian game, is any of their companion characters. I genuinely find them painful to even sit through their dialogue, sometimes for tens of minutes at a time, when I just want to go back to killing stuff.

I'm sure for a lot of people, this game is great and it's maybe exactly what they wanted. But personally for me, this game is everything I knew it would be which is nothing at all of what I wanted from a Baldur's Gate sequel. They had no reason, and no business, buying out the rights to the Baldur's Gate name when they knew they were just going to make Divinity 3. That's pretty disrespectful. They could have called it anything they wanted, done their own little Larian story in a properly backed DnD world, and everyone would have been perfectly happy with that. Instead they had to co-opt a beloved franchise name just to sucker some people into buying their product who never would have otherwise. That part genuinely bothers me, because that is the only reason this game has the Baldur's Gate name on it. It has nooooooothing to do with the franchise otherwise.

  6. What's even more exciting is that Larian is down for player-made mods. I've put in over 100 hours on this just as-is… imagine what happens when creative modders start adding in Blood Hunters, or Alchemists, or modding in new selectable races! I'm still itching for my Paladins, (thankfully, Solasta had that option), and I'm curious what kind of mods people could put together for Paladin Oaths or other subclasses. Or what about a whole campaign, Dungeon Master mode, or custom maps?

I think this game is exactly what you said. And if Larian plays their cards write, this one could played for many years to come with thousands of hours of value to the player. It's extremely exciting!

  7. Great review, thanks! There's a huge potential and it's gorgeous, but I'm not sure Larian is willing to fix what needs fixing. I'm talking about the overall balance and how they broke it with AoE – again, and how they missed the opportunity with D&D 5E. They had a mature and fine-tuned ruleset at their disposal and chose to deliberately mess up with it, rendering it pretty incoherent. And this obsession with ridiculous AoE effects that leave areas with everlasting fire or acid everywhere. Sure, they could fix it, but it doesn't look like they want to. Worse, they haven't said a word on where they stand regarding those heavily criticized points. No, what's important to them is deadmaps and this silly romance stuff… yeah, someone must crave for affection in their team, for sure :p Makes for more interaction with and between companions, anyway, so it's all good.

  8. Very accurate review. As a hardcore dnd player for the last 32 years this game is amazing. The story is fantastic and for a early access the depth of of the work that already went into it just this little bit is astounding. No wonder its 88gb installed already.

  9. this … game is an EPIC Fail, But the fan boys love it coz LAIREN STUDIOS CAN DO NO WRONG!
hell the game has lost over 70% of its players allready.
    1) The game has nothing to do with BG1/2 what so ever, The Story the Combat the UI the Faithfulness to a D&D Series, None of that
    2) This game is not faithful to D&D 5E what so ever
    3) The games companions and NAZI DRUIDS NPCS are an epic disapointment.
    4) Yes the game is good Eye Candy holy shit get over it and get into its core Mech
    5) The Combat is terrible, Many point at what is called/known as Barrelmancy ruining the combat, I Personaly think it being completely unfaithful and completely broken and a terrible UI helps make the combat terrible, But hey Barrelmancy kinda runs into that so w.e
    6) Yeah its in EA So ill ignore the SHIT loads of bugs this game has even in its eye candy stage sure ill give you that but you can still make arguements on the CORE Gameplay Mech of the game, Which is F-in TERRIBLE.

anyone who dosnt go into good detail about the first point alone is CLEARLY being biased as all hell.

I Have come to the conclusion your after eye candy and subs/likes and just give in to the crowed and are completely Biased as all hell.
    Good day sir.

  10. I have 140 hours in the game so far, I will say that two main things should have been changed, it should have been 30$ for the first week, and they should have explicitly said that the game has broken quests. Going to the swamp and that quest line, that final boss took me two hours to keep replaying so I could get the cutscene. Certain things like that should have made the game be less money from the starting point and go up from there. Everything else I agree with you but on launch it was worth like 20$ max, still has day 1 game breaking bugs. I get early access, just wish they literally said “the game is playable, don’t expect anything to work in particular”

  11. I have to hand it to you guys for playing this game.
I can't seem to find the interest in replaying something I've already played/tested etc. I know that I'll lose interest/excitement, once in retail release.

  12. Tricky question: is it closer Baldurs Gate II or Divinity II?
For example: which game is closer in feel to Baldurs Gate II – Pathfinder Kingmaker or Baldurs Gate 3?
Full 3d, color palette, more complex level design, environment-based fights, turn based system – this looks like Divinity to me.

Baldurs was a pleasant, not that really complex game, where fights were a part of exploration, sometimes a filler, not separate game mode. While BG fighting system is less ambitious, less RPG actually, I think that was a specific part of Black Isle Studios games (in Torment – mostly a filler, Icewind – the main part of the game).

  13. I tried very hard to like something something sin they made before, but couldn't be staying in the game for longer than 2 hours, I hate turn based RPG so much, that I never even finished half of the original FFVII.
So would I like this one? After all the original BG is one of the best RPG for me. Looks like Pillars is my true BG III

  14. It MAY be a good game, but calling Baldur's Gate has something to be thought upon. Sadly…well… im more hyped about the BG2 adventure on NWN2 that BG3 from what i have played. Im not a fan DoS mechanics and BG3 just seem a D&D port of DoS. Really sad for ME! may be good for many other ppl!

  15. The game looks great but the fact its full price in early access means i'm not touching it until its finished . The whole reason i buy early access is because of the discount they normally come with, making it worth it . I'm simply not going to pay full price for a buggy unfinished game .

  16. My only complaint is how the complete randomness of DnD combat really doesn't fit well for a video game. It just severely limits the skill involved.
Have you ever heard any gamer say: "You know what would make this more interesting? More randomness"

  17. Soon at 300 hours and still finding new ways to play the game. But i have started to use mods, but only new classes. using a sorcerer and noticed what a difference a high charisma makes in the game. Now i don't run around only killing everything for exp but talk through the game.

  18. Play
Pathfinder: Kingmaker, even better than Pillars of Eternity, great characters, 6 group party, real time combat with pause and turn based combat, 3.5 edition DnD rules, epic music, very interesting storyline, heart pounding battles, awesome classes and subraces and much darker than this teen comedy of a game. Pathfinder is the true Baldur's Gate 3 not this.
