Covenants Are Broken! Asmongold Reacts to "Shadowlands Is Close" | By Preach

Asmongold Reacts To Preach’s latest video on the Covenants Swapping/change controversy, this is one of the most important features of the next WoW expansion and even though Blizzard seems to welcome feedback on this system (that includes new spell and abilities) the criticism isn’t being practically addressed and the RPG aspect seems to be completely ignored…

  1. You could have a way to dynamically change talent for a situation in real time. Wow can put in a weapon change row of skills. With the reduced amount of skills every X-Pac we could now make it viable to swap weapons in combat which switches spells to another set up like u have in multiple fame for example ESO. I could def see that working now considering the rotations are so simplified.

  2. "+15 {insert dungeon [X]} – LFG 3K Rio score with {insert [X] covenant ability} – Fast clear"

    It will happen. Trust me.

We already have "Classphobia", "Specphobia". We have third party score grinder. We will have Classphobia/Specphobia in the Shadowlands. Cherry on the top, we will get even more [X]phobia with Covenants. Tied to the abilities directly and/or Soulbinds or even more unknown borrowed power system.

    Enjoy your RPG folks!

  3. A part of me agrees with this and worries. But a part of me is like "I want to see them try. I wanna see what will happen. Will this really fail? If this system fails this will probably be the last time Blizzard tries something similar".

  4. These covenants are gana be shit. So we choose This thing that might be good or really bad. And we might not be able to get into dungeons or raids if we choose the wrong one. But then maybe at 9.3 a shit one might be a good one. So we need the same class with different covenants

  5. RPGs and the choices made are about trading power at the expense of being weak in other aspects. The insistence of players on being human spreadsheets rather than people enjoying themselves is the real problem here.

  6. I believe the main problem was they gave different ability for each covenant so balancing this for everything is impossible. If they made it so the covenant's had the same ability but where cosmetically different for each covenant it would have been completely fine as look as some classes ability power didn't exceed others. Now it's just going to be every has to pick a certain covenant as a requirement for certain things which sounds super annoying and not fun.

  7. the class-ability (all 4 from the cov.) should be a new talent row, the general cov-ability available for everybody only in the zone (even dungeons and raids located in that zone (or associated) and the idendity (which blizz seems to be saying is the reason) should be style of the class-spells.
do that? most problems would be solved
conduits and soulbinds: everybody can pick whatever soulbind they want (3 active to switch around, but if you want you can "level" all 12 of them, but choose the 3 avtive ones to switch, others go passive but keep the progress)
    everything would be solved

  8. It's been a rough year, i'm looking forward to logging into Shadowlands at lauch, even if it's laggy or not completely the way how i want these 'layers / covenants' to work. With all bad stuff happening in the world i still feel like it's going to be an exciting time, all of us discovering new stuff and having a fresh start. Good times coming

  9. The covenant issue COULDVE been so easy to retain RPG elements without all this ability balancing. Make EVERY COVENANT ABILITY baseline (you'll get the abilities for each while doing their questlines). Make your covenant choice SOLELY a cosmetic/rep grind. Idk maybe have the covenant transmogs restricted to being in that covenant. But if you want to change covenant, you'll have you reputation for that Covenant lowered to the beginning of whatever level you were at, plus you would lose the currency gained for it (so there's still a price to be paid for switching without it being overly painful). This way the player won't be punished/excluded from mythic dungeons and raids because of a choice made as soon as they capped. Why is this concept beyond Blizzard's grasp? To take it a step further, to reinforce the idea of Covenant identity, make the potentially problematic dungeon specific covenant buffs more than just a damage/healing addition. For instance, if you wanted to run the Night Fae mythic dungeon, you would NEED a Night Fae player in your group or fog would be super thick and apply a slow debuff. If they implemented this kind of immersion, a player would become useful in endgame content, even if their Covenant choice isn't "meta". Idk shit seems so obvious. What do you think?

  10. At this point I really think Blizzard should look into banning some of these entitled content creators for brigading their fanbase on them so they can force their design philosphy.

  11. Covenants don't even feel like a choice. As someone who plans on playing Sub Rogue in PVP, Slaughter is pretty much mandatory, and it actually feels like that covenant was designed for Rogues based off of the transmog. It's hard to imagine BLizzard ever wanted players to feel like they had a choice.

  12. In kotor that was mentioned, you can actually even be a jedi and use sith powers like force lightning or choke, or vice versa you can be evil as all hell and use force heal. There's a slight penalty to using the other side's abilities, thats pretty much negligible by endgame.

So, in a classic rpg, with 2 very different, very opposing sides, with different stories and goals, you can freely choose your abilities separate from your story choices PepeLaugh
