First Gameplay Impressions – Baldur's Gate 3 Early Access Playthrough – Episode 1

Welcome to the Baldur’s Gate 3 Early Access Gameplay Series! In this Playthrough we will discover the first chapter of Baldur’s Gate III, the new party based roleplaying game made by Larian Studios. I will cover character creation, storyline, character progression, level-ups, loot, equipment, dialogue and many more things. Baldur’s Gate 3 is based on Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition. With the turn based combat backed up by the DnD 5E rules this game has potential to become the tactical RPG of the year as soon as it is fully released.

Gather your party, and return to the Forgotten Realms in a tale of fellowship and betrayal, sacrifice and survival, and the lure of absolute power. Mysterious abilities are awakening inside you, drawn from a Mind Flayer parasite planted in your brain. Resist, and turn darkness against itself. Or embrace corruption, and become ultimate evil. From the creators of Divinity: Original Sin 2 comes a next-generation RPG, set in the world of Dungeons and Dragons.

Choose from a wide selection of D&D races and classes, or play as an origin character with a hand-crafted background. Adventure, loot, battle and romance as you journey through the Forgotten Realms and beyond. Play alone, and select your companions carefully, or as a party of up to four in multiplayer. Abducted, infected, lost. You are turning into a monster, but as the corruption inside you grows, so does your power. That power may help you to survive, but there will be a price to pay, and more than any ability, the bonds of trust that you build within your party could be your greatest strength. Caught in a conflict between devils, deities, and sinister otherworldly forces, you will determine the fate of the Forgotten Realms together.

  1. I'm glad you are doing this series! I also jumped in on early access, through Steam, and I can't get it to run for more than 10min at a time =(
I understand it's Early Access so I'm not super butt-hurt, but here's hoping they are able to get it stable soon. I can live vicariously through your series for the time being 😁👍

  2. when you think about the amount of work that went into just the amount of game they give us in early access, and how high quality this early access product is…its just great. the amount of entertainment we get from video games is ridiculous. 60$ gets me like 200+ hours of insanely high tech, cutting edge interactive entertainment. and thats just the first playthrough. its nuts. no complaints here. im just glad i can play the game sooner rather than later. so far im probably about 4-5 hours into the story, but ive spent another 20 hours exploring and screwing around. and i can play it on my beefed up imac!!! thank you larian!

the game is amazing, btw, for people who are on the fence. it feels exactly like the DOS:3 that i think a lot of us were jonesing for. the gameplay is decidedly more on the nose for d&d players, but with a very DOS-esque fighting and rpg system. just make sure youve got an 8gb GPU, and youll be fine. the bugs arent even that bad if your computer is up to the task.

  3. "I suppose we can become a arcane trickster" eahhh right… in our dreams. Unpaid beta testers oh sorry early access owners get max lvl cap !!!4!!! (4, Carl) and some people tell that full version cap will be !!!8!!! Seriously… Its complete BS. How lvl 4-8 "hero" suppose to fight with illithids and devils? On this level even a drunken goblin is a real threat. Or they want to make some VNpointnclick like trash where your charracter not a heroantiherovillain but a clueless idiot and a punching bag for real powers and have no impact on story at all? Realy disappointment of ther year…

  4. 44:30 jesus that solution.
Do you want to know about a game that automatically applies sneak attacks?
    Neverwinter Nights 2.
A 15 year old game does automatically that Larian studios cannot do without a separate button.

  5. I watched a girl fail 4 major checks, and ended up having to murder most of a druid grove, plus she missed out on every possible positive interaction just before it. Different way to the end? She may have genuinely soft locked her game. There are times when it is okay to reload, and one is whenever you accidentally Mr. Bean for over an hour. Imo, more people just straight up should reload.
