What is Friday Night Funkin?

Friday Night Funkin’ is a Newgrounds rhythm game made in HaxeFlixel originally created for Ludum Dare 47. Programmed by ninjamuffin99 with a soundtrack produced by Kawai Sprite and artwork created by PhantomArcade and evilsk8r, the game can be played on Newgrounds or played/downloaded for free on Itch.io.

The plot of the game centers around Boyfriend trying to hook up with Girlfriend, but her ex-rockstar father Daddy Dearest doesn’t approve of him. It’s up to Boyfriend to rap battle his way through him and anyone else that stands in his way so that he can finally get freaky! Think you got what it takes?

Friday Night Funkin’ is an ongoing project that will continue to receive updates, bug fixes and new content. A full version of the game is currently in development, having been successfully funded via a Kickstarter campaign. Check the changelog here for information on the latest updates.     Imagine an animation like this: BF’s sleeping in his bed(Twinsomnia bedroom background), then he opens his eyes and jumps(Homer Simpson scream from when he saw his scary face in a mirror).

    Camera cuts to a certain shadowy girl at the foot of his bed. BF snaps his fingers to turn the lights on and there’s Yuri smiling(Markov sprite, but further away). Camera turns to directly in front of BF, then text appears at the bottom reading “Giggles, it’s only me!”

    BF sighs in relief, but then the text changes to “But I didn’t just come here to scare you!” BTW, these would use her dialogue sound from DDTO. The last part is bold because that’s when the back of Yuri’s hair suddenly appears over BF.

    He’s like “What are you doing? What are you doing?”(from Markiplier’s playthrough of Getting Over It). The screen turns black and reads “Rewind!” in big white text.

    Now we see Pico sleeping, and BF’s scream (really Homer Simpson’s, remember) wakes him up with a start. He gets up and takes his phone with him. A caption next to it reads “Just in case it’s something worth filming”.

    The camera cuts to BF’s doorway, then Pico peers inside, and his eyes widen in surprise (short dramatic sound effect). He runs over, hitting “play” on his phone’s camera app with his usual evil grin, and that’s when the audio in the link at the top plays!

    He hops onto BF bed stair(he has one at the foot of his bed, nearest to the doorway)and starts filming. Camera cuts to Yuri making out with BF. You can’t really see it, but her hands are holding the back of his head, thumbs squishing his lips in(in other words, puckering him up).

    Eventually, all in sync with the audio, she turns around and screams, jumping to BF’s side. Camera cuts back to Pico in his up sprite. He’s laughing, which uses one of the laughs from that Look At This Dude meme.

    Is this too long of a story/comment? Sorry, I have no way of shortening it without leaving out any details that I find important. I think this is the longest comment I’ve ever made…
