Ghost Recon Breakpoint: PS5 vs Xbox Series X|S + The Division 2 PS5 Fixed!

In this Ubisoft double-bill, we check out Ghost Recon Breakpoint’s push onto next-gen systems with a new 60fps mode, while also looking into The Division 2’s latest patch. For The Division 2 we’d previously seen the PS5 version missing key visual features – SSR and volumetric fog – the good news being that they’re now fully reinstated. As for Breakpoint we have a clear success in delivering 60fps gameplay to consoles, a trend that’s fast building from Ubisoft’s stable of developer, as Tom reports.

  1. PS5 in BC mode only runs at PS4 pro's clocks which is 911Mhz which is a far cry from PS5's native 2.23 Ghz. Of course there won't be any huge resolution boost. SeriesX's BC mode is simply better.

  2. Nothing new here….xbox performs pretty good with BC games as MS has a lot more experience e expertise on this area than Sony. But we still see Sony advantage on "native" current gen games due to their more refined development tools (for now) compared to MS's.

  3. As a Series X (and PS5 owner), I can’t believe how dense so many Xbox fan boys are here trying to grab onto whatever they can just to put down the PS5. The truth is, BC on the PS5 isn’t as great as the Xbox’s and needs deeper optimization. Saying it runs on a lower resolution just makes you Xbox owners sound all the more stupid than most people are already thinking. The PS5 version is running at a lower resolution based on PS4 pro BC.

  4. Volumetric fog is set to high on the ps5. while the far superior XBSX volumetric fog is set to Ultra
Yet again digital foundry has grossly omitted that Fact to hold to their Pro Sony stance

  5. Breakpoint has really come together into something much better than what we got at launch. Would definitely be interested in playing this game some more on my Series S, but a future 60 fps patch with lower res would be much appreciated.

  6. Digital Foundry seriously needs to make sure they remind people that doing 60fps modes for cross gen games is really, really easy. The horsepower does the work for you. It doesn't signal any potential for current gen exclusives to have these kind of options.

Personally, I hope they don't do that, because that means they aren't using the hardware to the full potential. The only way you can offer a 60fps mode is if you are only using half of the CPU time available to you at 30fps. That's a complete waste. Optimize fully around whatever target you decide to go for. If graphics and more complex worlds and mechanics are your priority, target 30fps. If performance is the priority, target 60fps. And then stick to that and make full use of the hardware at that target.
