"Greenpath" from Hollow Knight – Multi-Instrumental Cover

This is an arrangement of one of my favorite pieces from Hollow Knight, which is one of my favorite games. Greenpath was where it all first “clicked” for me; I wish I could explore it again for the first time.

Christopher Larkin’s music is a big part of why I loved Hollow Knight as much as I did – he created a beautiful musical identity for the game. (He also made all the game’s sound effects, which blows my mind.) This arrangement is based on the harmony and structure of his piece “Greenpath,” though I worked in some of his other motifs, as well. It was really fun to put it all together, particularly because each of his melodies and motifs fits so well with the other ones.

INSTRUMENTS PLAYED: Flute, clarinet, alto and tenor sax, melodica, whistle, vocals, xylophone, shaker, shells, promotional coffee mug, acoustic and electric guitar, ukulele, piano, bass, drums, wine glasses.

  1. Hollow Knight's music is really a gem that I don't see talked about enough (it'sconstantly on my piano pieces rotation to play). And this interpretation is a fantastic tribute to it, thanks Kirk. Chris Larkin should see that (so happy to learn he'll be back for the sequel bytw).

  2. You're a born teacher my friend and I can't thank you enough for sharing your knowledge… Breaking down the instruments in different windows as they drop in and out is such an incredible insight to the arrangement. – Appreciate you!

  3. It was a really great cover. Good work. I especially liked the fact that this is a personal proposition of the music, which is therefore not intended to be faithful to the original.

It's not a request, just an invitation to watch, but I think your arrangements would fit well with some of the musics from the Chrono Trigger game (a SNES game which has incredible osts), especially "Secret of the Forest" and "Guardia's Millenial Fair". My favorite music is “Too Far Away Times”. Yasunori Mitsuda is my favorite video game music composer, and you share the same style in my opinion.

Anyway, another good job for Hollow Knight x)

  4. I wish Hollow Knight weren’t so incredibly difficult because I’d really like to experience it and feel I’m just not a good enough gamer! I’ll try to persevere though. You inspired me!
