Sky News host Chris Smith says it is “game on” between the west and Beijing right now.
Mr Smith said he would argue there has “never been a more appropriate time to pause Chinese attempts to own or even lease Australian assets, including any more agricultural land”.
He spoke about the issue with One Nation Senator Malcolm Roberts.
“Our official attitude towards China, without a doubt, has changed dramatically just in the past 6 months,” Mr Smith said.
“I would have thought that’s a good enough reason to reassess what we sell to Chinese interests”.
“Definitely … also all foreign interests,” Mr Roberts replied.
“Australians are tired of having our ownerships of our assets and essential services in the hands of foreigners,” Mr Roberts said.
“We need control back in Australian hands”.
“We have to stand up for ourselves.
“We can’t just keep backpedalling to the Chinese all the time.”
