Let's Play Baldur's Gate 3 (EA) – Ep. 04: Sarcofa-Guys

Today, Iluthin delves ever deeper into the bowels of a forgotten tomb! Well, maybe not entirely forgotten given the other tomb raiders that are crawling all over the place, but that’s fine. They’re dead now.

Let’s try not to join them!

I’m not associated with Baldur’s Gate III or Larian in any way. I’m just some rando who likes to play cool new cRPGs, and sometimes ends up making videos about them. Neat!

  1. I'm expecting and Hoping that containers will be less commonly empty as development goes on, because playing an RPG where you're rarely ever finding loot and curios can really take the fun out of exploration.

  2. Hello dude. When you're planning to continue Wasteland 3 gameplay? I was really enjoying watching it ._.

Just to add: Been watching many playthroughs, none of them care to interact with every possible option in-game, based on the right skills you pick – like the answer available, if you have leadership lvl 2, while dialoguing with Jared (?) Dorsey.

    It's so frustrating D:

  3. 35:20 Having seen that room of this dungeon played by the devs at PAX months ago, that room is spectacular when it activates. It does look like you completely disabled it, though, which is a reward for your thorough exploration.

  4. 46:15 You were hidden, which granted Advantage, but you were making a long range shot, which grants Disadvantage. Advantage and Disadvantage cancel each other out, so you didn't have the conditions to Sneak Attack, sadly. :/

  5. In my personal experience the "knockout option" isn't well integrated so far. In a dnd campaign with an actual dungeon master it is obviously a viable choice to knock out specific enemies for further information, interrogation or simply because you actually don't really want to kill them.
Here on the other hand the enemies simply remain hostile after they wake up again. So there is no option to initiate a dialogue at all. They simply attack you on sight. Which is important to know because this can have major consequences down the line.

My example (no spoilers): Those "knocked out" enemies for example wander/teleport back to their base. Much later in the game you visit said base. All (not yet met) npcs are friendly / non hostile there and you can talk to them normally. But there are also the formerly knocked out ones – and they are still hostile. So as soon as you come into line of sight they will attack you.
-> And with them the whole camp turns hostile. So you might get cut out of dozens of dialogues and you might need to simply "kill them all" to continue specific quests.

Tldr: I personally wouldn't use the knock out option at the moment.

  6. Spears aren't Martial weapons, they're simple weapons and they're usually worse than the martial ones.

Spears also aren't supposed to be Two-Handed, but versatile instead (you can use them one handed for 1d6 dmg or two handed for 1d8 dmg)

  7. 1. A lot of games have NPCs with what you call "persistent inventory".
    2. One ancient and common workaround for the "too many empty containers" problem is to mark containers as emtpy/nonempty even before you open them so you can see it right away. It's not perfect but definitely less annoying. If I recall correctly a game called "Divine Divinity" had that implementation, Larian may have heard of it.

  8. Hey Ret, great video as always!
About that sneak attack with Astarion, to perform it you have to select is as an action from the hotbat (he has 2 sneak attack buttons – melee and ranged). Though they seem to be active all the time and I'm not 100% sure it always worked in my playthrough.
Another thing about dual wielding; if you have a weapon in each hand, when you switch to your melee tab, you can see a smaller "switch" below it where you can select singe or dual wield. The "offhand attack" will be placed in your hotbar to use as a bonus action (you can attack different targets with each wepon this way!). So equiping 2 wepons does not imply auto-dual wiel and it doesn't take away your bonus action unless you check that dual wield button. I wrothe all that because I remembered you hasitate to equip 2 weapons on Astarion the other time 😛

    Keep it up!!

  9. So we have a Dampyr rogue, evil cleric and two Githyanki. Even paying as the future god of murder in the original games I don't think the parties alignment skewed this close to evil.

  11. What I find it hard for new players in this game and similar is the lack of intelligence and knowledge about the game, for example you want extra dmg combine elements, dont have fire arrows dip the weapon in fire, cant reach a place jump, positions mater alot, sneak system is actually like skyrim if you master one enter combat one ambush, the lvl of killing ppl is like hit man games, traps, puss over ledger or …etc this will be a amazing game but sadly from what I hear it's gona be super limited like 10 lvls ar max,4 person party…etc witch is sad.
