Little Nightmares 2 Review

Reviewed by Tristan Ogilvie on Xbox One. Also available on PlayStation 4, PC, and Nintendo Switch.

“Little Nightmares 2 is every bit as black, bleak, and eerily beautiful as the original. It’s also just as brief, and although the reintroduction of the Six character as an AI-controlled co-op partner ultimately serves the story well, she’s not used as a vehicle to take the game’s puzzle-solving and stealth to interesting new places, which seems like a real missed opportunity. While I still very much enjoyed each thrilling encounter with its menacing mob of monstrosities, the overall sense of familiarity this time around meant that Little Nightmares 2 left less of a lasting impact. There’s no doubting developer Tarsier Studios’ artistry and ability, but I hope for its next project it leaves these Little Nightmares behind and dares to dream bigger.”

  1. This game made me appreciate the first one a little more as I thought the idea of the first game was wonderful but its controls and stealth scenes were very irritating at times. This is the same case with the 2nd game though I did not feel the same level of frustration. I definitely agree with his points on the camera being hard to judge jumps or hit enemies, the combat portions were nothing that I really cared for that much. However like any review, Id say to make a judgement call yourself. There is a wonderful story here with a lot of mystery and a great community (check out the subreddit). The puzzles and chase scenes are enjoyable, the boss fights, while occasionally frustrating, are still fun. This game does feel like the first one and uses similar mechanics as the first but this is not a bad thing in my opinion and I thoroughly enjoyed myself a majority of the time, despite some frustrating controls and camera issues being present again.
My suggestion is try the demo, there is one on Switch and you can determine if you enjoy it based on that.
Don't give this reviewer a hard time just because their opinion doesn't match your own. Everybody has their own opinions and I prefer the reviews to be honest, rather than cater to the majority. Happy gaming!

  3. the devs simply wanted to expand their first storyline, they know how much fans enjoyed the first game so they didnt try to branch out, and thats fine. a small game like this does not need big gameplay changes?
