  1. Honestly I still think the deep dark is disappointing and the treasure in the center of the city being essentially just a red-stone tutorial is a huge L. Even just adding some form of exclusive treasure item similar to the dragon egg would have been better than what amounts to literally nothing. Hope the portal will do something cool though.

  2. I do like the update, but I think the problem is that it's not what the community was asking for. We wanted the environment and atmosphere to be improved, but instead it feels like they shifted their focus to something new rather than finishing what they promised.

People were really happy with the frogs and horns. The community was ECSTATIC about the new mangrove biomes, trees, chest-boats, and mud. As much as they joked about the fireflies, they really liked how they added to the atmosphere, only for it to be taken away (and no, their usefulness is not a good reason when you consider bats and polar bears are in the same category). The frogs don't need to interact with the fireflies. We just liked having them in the game, even if they were just particles of certain biomes (like the ash in basalt deltas).

The deep dark, warden, skulks, etc. are really cool, but they don't feel like "The Wild Update". They feel like Mojang got bored of working on the wild update and moved on to "the Spooky Update" or something. It feel like they decided to drop the promised project and moved on the next thing without any consideration to the community being really invested in the one they were talking about before. It's like being invested in you football game, and then the players suddenly decide "you know what, let's scrap this game and start playing basketball" or something. Sure, it could be interesting and cool, and some people may find it really fun and interesting, but it's not what people would be looking for and would make a lot of them upset.

TL;DR: I think we are all excited and happy that the game is continuing to be updated and developed, but people are upset that it feels like the community isn't being considered even though the company constantly makes it out that the community is what decides on what is updated.

  3. Oh man, just read the update news.
"There will be so much to explore"
"The Wild Update will both be beautifying and terrifying the Overworld"

    And then right after:
"The Overworld is getting 2 brand new biomes"
