Philips will be rolling out a firmware update to fix the frame drops with 120fps video signal on the OLED+935 with Bowers & Wilkins speaker bar, restoring the motion clarity and smoothness expected of high frame rate (HFR) content especially in games.

We have tested a beta version of the firmware, and can confirm that there’s no longer any discarding of half the frames, or fluctuation in input lag figures at 120fps.

A public version of the firmware update will be available to download from next week, with an OTA rollout being pushed from the third week of March.

  1. Vincent, this looks really promising (good work Phillips), I have noticed while watching fast panning action that I see a slight stutter taking place in the film, am I able to tackle this through the onboard settings. Many thanks in advance, Regards, John

  2. Although this is great news for 935 owners or potential buyers … it is another indication for how some OEMs are selling unfinished, faulty products to us.
Nevertheless it took Philips only 5 months to get it corrected … which I appreciate. Others are still waiting for their set getting promised features delivered.
I even saw this habit with the new Yamaha Aventage AVRs (which I am very interested in) … they will not receive a single penny from my money as long as the product is not finished.
So, better stay critical and informed prior to doing your next purchase 🙂

  3. Vincent could you please give them feedback about an issue when there is a subwoofer connected via the pre out port. I’m having an issue with my 55OLED935 where everytime I turn the tv on I have to manually go to settings and turn the subwoofer on otherwise it won’t get any sound signal. Philips mentioned that they fixed this problem in the latest update however the subwoofer does turn on now, it just doesn’t get any sound until you manually select it on everytime in sound settings. Thanks for the brilliant videos!

  4. Nativ 4K + 120hz:
    Ori Wisp of the Wild,
    Halo Masterchief Collection,
    New Super Lucky Tails,
    Crosscode.

The most Games have a Resolution between 1440p and 1800p with 4K Upscaling, if they use 120Hz.

  5. Need some help: My family is looking for a new tv, it must be 75 inch because of distance, OLED and QLED are too expensive at this size. If you cant recommend any specific tv I would at least like to know which kind of display I have to look for like "LG NanoCell" or "Samsung Crystal UHD" (not sure if thats even a display technology) Im sure you guys have more expertise 🙂 As Im from germany maybe not all of the brands you know are available here

  6. Would you please make a video esssplaining the pros and cons of buying a 4k TV or 4k monitor and trying to game at 1440 and 1080? I'm learning that TV's have had scalers for a long time now while monitors do not. A lot of people are probably in a similar situation as I am … been gaming on a 9 year old 1080p 21.5 inch monitor at 60 FPS but very badly want to make the jump to 4k 144 FPS with all the new gaming features that often come with HDMI 2.1 etc.

I work on the computer but also game on both console and PC. Will monitors have to start including scalers & upscalers and how much do scalers add to the cost? Are todays scalers and upscalers ok or do they need upgraded for 4k, 1440 & 1080?

I don't mind gaming at 1440 or 1080 for a faster refresh rate but for those games that do 4k at 120 well, I don't want to miss out on that by settling for a 1440 monitor. Is going with a TV with HDMI 2.1 a better option than monitors due to the scalers and upscalers on TV's?

According to the "Steam Hardware & Software Survey: January 2021" nearly 70% game on a 1080p display. Most of them would like to make the jump to 4k. When will 4k options at 32 inch with HDMI 2.1 come out at reasonable prices?

If I do get a 4k TV or monitor I'm also concerned about watching older content or YouTube for example that may be in 480 – only to have issues for upscaling it. That's another issue I'm hoping to avoid. If I'm gonna pay for a 4k TV or monitor I want it to look good at 4k, 1440, 1080 and good enough at 720 and 480 resolutions. Anything being done about these issues?

  7. So I want to say this the companies aren't improving the motion picture just smoothing it out. A actually looks sharper in motion while b looks blurrier because they smoothed out the movement now it's not as sharp
