Resident Evil 8 vs. Resident Evil 7 – BIG Differences You Need To Know

With Resident Evil 7, the survival horror series hit the reset button. As it sought to reinvent itself and go back to its horror roots, not only did it take a back to the basics approach, it also started from scratch in many ways- and as such, it was a pretty focused, zoomed in experience.

Now that the series has a steady foundation in place though, it’s looking to escalate things with Resident Evil Village, which is RE’s next step forward in the first person horror space. Many things separate the two games, with the upcoming sequel making several changes and improvements over its predecessor, and here, we’re going to talk about a few of them.

  1. I have a feeling that Chris is playing as a double agent to gain the trust of Mother Miranda and The Four Horseman. Blue Umbrella must of leaked information to Chris about strange phenomenons in that village and have been keeping tabs on it ever since.

  2. Ethan was designed to be the “Everyman”. He was the most approachable and relatable character that Capcom had designed. Just a guy looking for his wife. I love him. Now he’s a guy who’s been through some serious crap and that’s shaped him. Plus he’s a father. Get ready for a new Ethan to make an appearance.

  3. Didn’t like 7 when it first dropped, but now seeing 8… I gave 7 a chance and didn’t hate it. Glad I could catch up before RE Village. Excited to see lycan Chris Redfield!

  5. The main difference is RE8 feels like a full, fun, action horror game. RE7 felt like a boss rush tech demo that got boring after the first good hour.

  6. Okay listen. Instead of the Mr. X and now Tall 8 foot lady gimmick (which cool, scary). Not implemented the most sandbox,

have a TOUGH ASS ENEMIE, that does chase you down. sporadic orchestra scary music plays if he's near. But you can kill him. It just takes a bitchload of ammo/etc. And you have from hour 1-30 or whenever to kill it or keep running. Killing it unlocks I donno, say even the key to enter the final dungeon. I think would be more exciting than the current gimmick.

  7. I think Ethan was just a perfect protagonist in RE7. Not some emotionless (and often cheesy) supersoldier, but just a regular guy going through some heavy shit and he reacts to it, like you would expect someone to react. It´s much more relatable than other RE "heroes" and that makes a horror game much scarier (Silent hill did that well back in the days too).
Even during RE7 Ethan grew as a character. He eventually got tired of the horrors and decided "f*** this sh**, If that´s the way we´re gonna do it, fine, lets go" and instead of running, he started to fight back because what did he have to lose?
He´s never gonna be some new superhero for Marvel series, but he´s a great horror game protagonist to relate.

  8. "Ethan was boring"

But, he's not supposed to be interesting. He's just an average guy who ended up in this nightmare. Like a defenseless protagonist. He's made to be this way so that the player feels less defensive than they were with most other combat trained heroes, like Jill, Chris, Leon, ect. And personally, I really like their decision of just making him a normal guy. But that's just my opinion, I respect the fact that you think otherwise.

  9. So I want to help people understand, never once was resident evil about zombies it was about the T-Virus plain and simple. Which has changed sooo much but that's the whole point in resident evil, it's always changing the virus always changes. I mean the creators never once said (this is only about zombies) people have just assumed that. Heck even the original licker design for RE1 looked more like werewolves then what they do now, that was a last minute change. So them being a werewolf like creature now is the most original thing they could ever do.

  10. I wonder if Chris is only doing this to save Jill or, maybe Eveline’s power is somehow a part of Rose. Who knows maybe Ethan is just Albert Wesker in a different body. I also question if Mother Miranda is Alex Wesker.
