Don’t ask why there are so many clips from Vanguard, I got two really long games there for some reason.

Homewrecker shouldn't be better at removing sappers than wrench. Why class that isn't about building should be better at maintaining them than class that specializes in buildings?
Imagine if pyro weapon healed more than medic. Not only that playnig pybro is really boring, just play second engi
spongebobtf2 sweep
Can’t forget how the neon annihilator does the same thing except it has a more versatile use via pyro shark, for the low price of no random crits
I found that the homewrecker works best when supporting battle engineers rather than defending a nest. Pyro himself is enough of a spy deterrent, so that level 3 nest guarded by the engineer, reloading demoman, and whoever else just took chip damage doesn't really need to worry about spys that much. A battle engineer who is pushing up and keeps his gear in the enemy's face does. Seeing a pyro on the front lines just feels normal, and since most battle engineers tend to build and forget their buildings are prime targets for a spy looking to stop that push in the chaos of the battle. One homewrecker in that situation shuts it down almost as quickly as a random flame particle, putting one more gun in the fight that the enemy (and even your own team) assumed was as good as gone. On maps where I don't feel the need to bring the powerjack for mobility or when the engineer is on top of his game with the teleporter, the homewrecker as a backup plan if it is needed fits rather well.
I very often as Engy, die to a spy's suicide attack and my team watches hopelessly as he nest is destroyed. This scenario comes up very often in Pubs I played in, so I always enjoyed having this equipped to deter this situation. I also distinctly remember getting panic ubered on and just happening to carry a Homewrecker on me to make quick work of a lvl 3 sentry. Felt satisfying.
I agree that the weapon is very situational, but since the flamethrower takes care of melee range opponents already, I like the idea of a melee to instead focus on buildings. I believe flames deal low damage to buildings, at least compared to this weapon.
That all said, spy bullying can be considered a design flaw. Keep in mind, 10 years ago it wasn't unusual for spies to be wrecking pubs with permanent silent deadringers. Things have changed a lot.
It’s interesting to note that the homewrecker was not able to hit sappers on its initial release. so when you describe it as feeling redundant in its main role, and finding yourself using it more against engies, that’s because that it was initially made for the role of breaking engie buildings. while the sapper part was added less than a month after its release, it was still not the initial function. even the design and name of the weapon point towards this: a sledge hammer is used to break apart concrete and other building materials, like what an engineer would use, and the name, while a reference to a home wrecker, could also be taken more literally: a wrecker of homes, a building breaker to put it another way. and if we go with the marriage reference, it still doesn’t make sense for it’s current role. If it was made to break sappers and promote team work, why reference a failing marriage, one of the worst examples of teamwork? it all points to the weapon being made to fight engie buildings, and then someone looking at spy’s sapper, realizing it also counts as a building and deciding to make that the primary function instead. it was forced into a role it never was made for and never needed to exist, and that’s why it feels redundant.
or maybe the vodka I downed earlier is affecting my brain and I’m seeing patterns where there are none idk
On the other hand, having the homewrecker on pyro means spy only has one main target to take out before he saps and kills engi. If sniper had it as you proposed, there could be a sniper and a pyro you would have to worry about while taking out a nest.
When you realize that most of Pyros melee weapons serve a more utility purpose than straight up offensive purpose makes sense, Pyro doesn't even use his melee like ever and sticks to the usual W+M1. The cases he does actively use them when he has no better alternative like the Powerjack to run faster and heal from kills or Sharpened Volcano Fragment in Medieval Mode to set enemies on fire lol. Pyros melee choices have only been utility centered ever since the Axtinguisher was nerfed to hell along the Degreaser and the Neon Annihilator doesn't even work on most maps without water or friendly teammates using any liquid items and then there is The Third Degree, its only use case is so rare that you might as well not have a melee weapon to begin with. Objectively, Powerjack serves the as the best all rounder melee choice for every Pyro aside from the Backscratcher which is the ultimate roamer Pyro melee anyways (seriously it's OP). I've seen every Pyro gravitate towards the Backscratcher due to the lack of Medics and competent Engineers to place good Dispensers, especially in Pubs. Similarly the Homewrecker serves that very specific niche for Pyro to even use Melee cuz otherwise no one ever uses Melee on Pyro. I love the Hothand UwU.
I think the homewrecker is used to basically help solidify your mindset of being a Pybro when you equip it. Sure, you don't really need it, as you explained, but i do think it is a mindset set weapon to help you keep in mind your goal when you equip it, defend and protect your engineer. I know i equip this weapon when i am going Pybro when a spy is harassing and basically giving my engineer a real hard time, even though i hardly use it, because that is the Pybro Loadout, and so a Pybro i will be
1:33 combo pyro brainrot is real (I feel u brother)
Here's an idea to change up gameplay, the Spybro! Instead of teaming up with your engineer defensively, team up with your spy on the offensive and make a huge distraction, THEN when spy makes the Stab-and-Sap it's safe enough to destroy buildings!
Question is would the Thermal Thruster or the Detonator be the best option?
While I like the weapon's idea I almost never use it now unless I really feel like there's too much spy spam or there's one sweaty probably kunai deadringer one making the game too absurdly painful for the engineer(s) on my team.
That or the like rare occasion they try to spam sappers on a teleporter, let's be real we all know there's guys like that that need to turn the game off and drink some water for once.
Maybe I'm biased as an engi main, and I can definitely say it's overkill for like, engi stacking and all, but spy getting his shit caved in for being such a goddamn pest at times feels reeeeeeally good.
8:05 as much as I can say thats a valid grievance, if the enemy team has another even partially receptive engineer trying to work with the other one that just winds up happening anyways. And if anything it is a bit of a dedicated choice when a pyro specifically does this since he has to have consciously put it on his kit over, say, 15% more walk speed for free. If he were playing engi not only would there be ANOTHER sentry but the sapper would likely also be gone.
Now I wonder what demoknight might get up to if he could equip the homewrecker. Imagine taking down a sentry in a single charge!
I use the Dragon's Fury with it. I don't babysit Engie nests, and because of that, Spies happen to attack Engies way more. I'm not a fan of Pyro's other Melee options (except the Third Degree to random crit Vaccinator Medics).
I really feel like youre wrong about the pyro spy matchup. Im not saying that spy has very good chances but do you really think its worse than say a scout vs a sentry? Even the pyro v heavy and v snipers are really bad.
Also, even if a pyro is preventing you from destroying a nest. Its not like the spy has no options. Every second youre protecting the nest a spy could be harrasing the combo or your snipers etc. The point is that spy can still be highly effective. Even with a good pyro on the oposite team. And even if you find the spy, if he is outside of your flamethrower range they can be pretty dangerous with the revolvers since theyre faster than you are
Not to mention that you cant spend all game looking behind your own back. If youre distracted by anything at some point in the match a spy can just up and backstab you like any other chump on your team
Maybe the Homewrecker is so seen as the pyro's weapon of choice, because a pybro would always go the extra mile for their engineers.
so what im hearing is, OBJECTIVELY, you like the scorch shot more than the homewrecker.
With regards to pyro vs spy, you're forgetting the existence of… THE DOMCLASS
As a spy main. I always thought the homewrecker one shotting sappers was absurd. But I found the red tape recorder finds a use when encountered with one. So even if the sapper gets removed after an escape by a pybro or second engi. The sentry will be less effective than it would've been with the regular sapper. So I think a good balance would be if the homewreckers took 2 or 3 hits to remove sappers. Or a buff to the red tape even tho honestly I think it does its job well except with teles.
If it ain't the Homewrecker, it is the Neon Annihilator. Tough, I wonder where it got its sapper removal ability from.
I've got a great stat change for this item.
On death: while holding the homewrecker, posts the IP of the person who killed you in chat, and can therefore wreck their home
It's like giving the sniper a melee weapon that does +100% extra damage to medics.
Nice
Pfff people are now bitching about the homewrecker. Spy isn't a bad class just people like you have no idea how to play him . Normie video
In all honesty, the Homewrecker doesn't really hurt a Pyro to equip if he's near an Engineer anyway.
You're probably not in need to combo with the axtinguisher, don't need the backscratcher's extra health from med kits and aren't using the Powerjack if you're spychecking.
Generally in my games, Spies only harrass Engineer nests I am protecting when I leave the vicinity to shoo away players trying to get close.
I don't always get to use the Homewrecker because I don't have time to break a sapper when it happens.
I like to play in coordination with an Engi main friend to defend places, and when a single Spy harrasses us it's the Engineer who goes after the Spy because I break sappers in less time.
Spy is a weak class because he helps his team a lot to make plays, but if two players are communicating and the Spy isn't, he's already in a huge disadvantage, plus in-game voice chat allowing players to call out Spy.
The Homewrecker is that extra middle finger to Spy, but in a coordinated push (or the Spy waiting for a Medic and his patient to decide to push) he can make the difference while the Pyro is distracted. But if not, it's a 2 v 1 already, though I guess that's Fish's point.
As a Pyromain, I find his melees have some of the best examples of what sidegrades should be.
The Powerjack offers an always useful buff but gives you a harsh penalty if you're caught out while using it.
The Back scratcher is perfect if you want to play aggressive and flank heavy, but makes you far less receptive to team aid.
And the Homewrecker as you described gives pyro the ability to help his engineer even more, as well as another out to buildings if you don't use the dragons fury, since fire damage doesn't really cut it.
They are all equally powerful, but none overlap in usefulness, giving you a reason to use all of them.
But then there are his other melees.
The Stock axe is literally the only item in the game that is straight up outclassed,
The Third Degree, despite being a direct upgrade has a usecase so infrequent that it might as well be a stock reskin
The Neon Annihilator is literally just for pyrosharking (also it's still bs that gasoline soaked players don't count as wet) and a poor mans homewrecker
and the hot hand is just kinda there
And that is why the neon sign is better
Personally, I see the Homewrecker as a way to be a Pybro without having to literally sit next to your Engie’s sentry nest. Because although it’s very easy to keep spraying flames around the nest to keep spies from even trying to sap anything, that means you basically can’t move away from it unless you know all of the enemy team’s spies are dead/not around. With the Homewrecker, you can actually move away from the nest to help on the frontlines or try to chase a flanker, and then you can still save the nest if the Engie gets attacked while you were gone. I think the Homewrecker isn’t really supposed to be used when the Engie isn’t in immediate trouble and can still maintain his nest by himself. It’s basically just a backup tool if the Engie can’t save his nest in time, which I think is why it can one shot sappers while most of Engie’s wrenches take two swings.
Thank god some big youtuber finally mentioned this.
I think you mean “8 of the nine classes are out for themselves and no-one else”.
Medics are team players basically by definition.
Pybro isn't a set in game,
It's a mindset.
Homewrecker let's the Pyro play a more midrange from the sentry.
They can switch between attack and defense easily, and the homewrecker holds up there, they can always retreat to help the engineer, And can help maintain buildings from a wider area, like the ever important Dispenser, while Engineer keeps up a sentry.
Pybro isn't just Engineers friend, It's Medics friend helping guard against the world, It's the Demomans friend helping keep away scouts,
12:44 The Chad Third Degree Pyro at the end
As a PyBro, this is mostly accurate. I usually get to use it against spies a lot on more CTF maps, but also occasionally on attack/defend maps. But I think it’s best used for both teams and it can fit with many objectives, as long as an engineer is on the server.
Im soup rice that theres not a crocodille skin watch that makes the Spy inmune or resistant to fire
Always showing winners. What about Losers?
-Tarik. Once Upon times he was Team Fortress 2 Player in Early 2010's.
I always like playing Pybro, it is the reason I install tf2 in the first place. It's a place style I enjoy as been supportive to the Engies. I am happy I can find this middle ground I cant find with other classes
As a Pybro, I get to both be a support while making every weeb spy main altF4
The Homewrecker is my favourite weapon in the game together with the detonator
I agree, the pyro has no need for the homewrecker, it should become an all-class so that everyone can curbstomp spy mains
No make it worse for spies, they should feel bad for even playing spy, they have the spycicel and kuni and those are bs enough
I always thought the sniper should get something to get his fellow engie, and change a bit his playstyle !
While maybe not giving him a big hammer, why not a smaller one, or something that could cut the sapper more than breaking him for example
8:41 really the pompson? it might as well just not be ay gun equipt
Kunai spy do sapping sentry without caring about pyro flamethrower when they have a lot of overheal.
Love your vids bruh ❤
Honestly though the Homewrecker just feels like such a bad item, a Pyros job should be to prevent a spy from causing damage to engineer nests, not meander around the area and turn around the moment you hear a spy stab and sap behind you.
It's always so disappointing to get the engineer while the enemy team is distracted and sap all the buildings just to have some muffled lunatic turn around, vaporize you and undo all the work you put into getting the sap in the first place.
A pyro shouldn't be rewarded for failing to prevent a spy from getting in, having an undo button that screws your best matchup just that extra bit harder is not only unfun, but unfair.
Finally a youtuber pointed out that spies have no chance against a homewrecker.
to the part around 6:39 i dont cry for any spy which gets killed by me or any other pyro. Who am i to blame if they dont use the spycicle but only the kunai . It might be an unfair interaction but hey, diamond back and amby exists. nuff said.
4:35 because the pyro is going to be busy defending the sentry from other threats like rockets, pipes, and stickybombs.
