  1. Hopefully. As long as bethesda makes huge leaps and bounds. If it's same old stuff I'm gonna be disappointed. I thought the elder scrolls got progressively worse. Morrowind was my favorite. Oblivion was great. Skyrim was so so. It had the best gameplay but the plot and overall feel was my least favorite. It's like they streamlined it to grab a bigger fanbase instead of rewarding the niche fanbase it's first few games carved out

  2. I would say in there sense an easier way to explain it would be a mechanical reboot, they re-tooled a lot of game play mechanics like the spell system, weapons, skills/perks, and the AI. for the most part they made the map a higher quality but that's more in the lines of graphics if anything, and the dialog options are still somewhat the same in how you choose things. As for what I see a reboot being is like doom 2016 for example they fully changed everything compared to the original games especially making the fight sequences feel more open and sudo hiding the corridor style of play , by branching things out. And I could say the same thing might happen with ES6, one of the biggest things people say about the series is that you always feel like a stick for the most part, and if you play in first person things like doge rolling and what not tend to look really weird and in my case throw me off a bit, but in third person mechanics like that work really well. However what I am getting at is if they can re tool the entire combat system to feel more fluid, and have bosses move around more even just the random enemy npc's it would be a big step for them. Not only that but having the dialog choices you make in game really feel like they mean something, like the imperials and the storm cloaks in Skyrim, imagine choosing a side and then every time you go into one of there controlled areas the towns people, merchants, guards all treat you differently. Maybe even reworking the way armors work usually it's daedric and bone armor well at least in Skyrim that are the strongest, but what if you were able to just upgrade whatever you wanted to be as strong as you needed it to be. Legit maybe I wanna be a basic bitch and just use glass armor, but sadly the other ones are just way strong so I have no use for it. I would also like to see them bring back a system from oblivion, being the mages guild and the ability to create your own spells. It was fun imo and really expanded on the RPG side of things. At this point this is just a wish list…….

  3. So can't wait see them reveal anything on ES6! With a massive engine update I hope to see them implement climbing like Daggerfall, and improved animations allowing different play styles for weapons in a sense of that Absolver game.

  4. I hope they make the combat more technical. How about parrying, counters, tripping, throwing dirt in the opponent's face, whatever. And obviously, the magic system needs a complete overhaul.

  5. ESO, and I admit don't have a ton of experience with it because I just don't like MMOs and didn't like the feeling of ESO the few chances I've given it, seems to me to have given TES a huge make-over, art direction-wise.
The photogrammetry is going to naturally give it an utterly different, less artsy, more realistic look, and the beautifully done trailers for ESO releases show that point. Look at AC Valhalla. I expect it's going to look a lot like that.

  6. In my humble opinion, Skyrim wasn't a reboot, but a big coming out.

Morrowind – Bethesda did an outstanding job with that one, but they were kinda small and also still a stranger to most people.
Oblivion – Bethesda came out a little bit, Oblivion was like a little appetizer for people and they were known for Oblivion then. Oblivion had bugs and glitches all over the place, but the people learned to mod and fix Bethesda's mess and besides the bugs/glitches, Oblivion was still a solid game with good story (especially the beloved Dark Brotherhood).
Skyrim – …Yes, Skyrim. Skyrim was like… Imagine Sovngarde and ALL the current gamers are at a huge table together. Bethesda, with Skyrim in their hands was the one, POUNDING on the door from outside, opening it wide and coming in like a badass, still holding Skyrim in their hands and everyone turned their heads and they were amazed. Then Bethesda stepped down to the table, slammed Skyrim on it, slammed the other fist on the table, demanded some mead and was like:
"You see that mountain over there?"
    Pointing at Skyrim
    "YOU CAN CLIMB THAT!"

And people still play this game today, just like they were back in 2011. Skyrim is for Bethesda, what Age of Empires 2 was for Microsoft/Ensemble Studios, the masterpiece, that made them REALLY popular.
So yeah, it's more something of "Hello we are here! Look at this fine piece of art!" than
"Guys, we know there were mistakes in the past. We fixed them and we are rebuilding ourselves and our games."

  7. Well Tom Howard is lying, 16 times the detail, did we get that???? No. A sequel is suppose to overhaul the game to make it better. That is a sequel. Reboot is starting over. Don’t let these people twist definition of the word reboot.

Skyrim wasn’t a reboot, it’s a downgrade, even with their physics.

  8. Every Elder Scrolls game is an individual story that can stand alone. Anyone can start anywhere and the game makes sense. Mechanically they're all very different. It's part of the reasons i find Oblivion so jarring. I love Oblivion but it's hard for me to get into growing up on Morrowind. It's not like say the Mass Effect trilogy or the first 3 Halos where each game played into a continuous story. Every TES game is a soft reboot

  9. Skullzi, do you not realise that Skyrim was technically a reboot of the Elder Scrolls franchise? It was obvious to me after I had played the game for a few months… The Septim dynasty had ended in TES 4: Oblivion and now we're dealing with the Thalmor threat (well, indirectly in TES V).

  10. I guess you could say Skyrim was a reboot, as the story telling changed from you being a normal person who can try and make good in the world. To the more popular (but well used) power fantasy that you are a born super hero that needs to save the world but you don't know it yet. Personally I think the ES story telling has been "dumbed down" over time and yet the ES lore has got very messy and complicated with dragon breaks and weird excuses for game design changes. So the two types of writing are totally divergent now. I would like a lore reboot to bring all the writing back to a more consistent tone and would like to see the lore simplified with the removal of dragon breaks and weird events to explain game design changes. The lore should be clean and honest and does not need to include every possible ending for every game. And they should not be afraid to change the lore if you want to change how a continent looks etc.

  11. I think you are right ES 6 reboot will be significant and the biggest reboot to date as they will aim to get you playing all the time, on your console on your phone, on your PC. I can see the game play mechanics being refined to more easily allow this cross platform play anyway type gameplay. So you can sit and craft potions, or work at the blacksmiths, while you are out of the house waiting for the bus. I also think there will also be a significant change in how the game is monitised. I think they want more money than just the price of the game. They will charge for having extra server saved characters etc.

  12. It will reboot most of the in game economy. You’ll earn smaller amounts of gold from quests and selling items. There will be tolls to enter new areas and to you’ll have to buy Septims with $USD to enter or grind hardcore.

  13. GTA San Andreas to GTA 4 WAS a reboot, it takes place in a completely different universe, this is official from Rockstar. GTA V was in no way a reboot.

Todd Howard's use of the term is not in line with what most of the games industry would call a reboot. Another good example of a reboot would be Wolfenstein The New Order, and it's Sequel/Prequel games.

Generally speaking a reboot is a complete reimagining of a familiar world, where the events of previous installments have no bearing on the new storyline being told. For this reason, I would personally not classify Skyrim a reboot, and I doubt TES6 will meet this criteria either.

TLDR A reboot has little to do with technology, and has much more to do with narrative.

  14. I completely agree with you! The Elder Scrolls VI will be a "reboot" of sorts for the entire franchise. When a new Main TES game comes out, it's like the whole TES franchise is being reborn again. Skyrim pretty much defined a whole new generation of gamers, myself included (though I grew up playing Oblivion). 😀

Thank you for all the great content, Skullzi! I hope your channel explodes when The Elder Scrolls VI and Starfield finally come out! Oh yeah, and also thanks for reading this, and stay safe out there. o7

(ZOOM is the best young scrolls album, imho.)

  15. Reboot: blow up the old world, retcon almost all old lore out of existence and do something quite alien to the old audience.
Then restart with no background, no lore, no known world or npc:s.
Why do that instead of a wholly new world i have no idea but whatever.

  16. Whether it's a good thing or not will have to wait for release. I would have been pessimistic until the recent change of management. Now it's up in the air but one thing I don't give much credence to since Oblivion is Todd talking up a game. The man is an inveterate male cow manure machine. Starfield is going to give us most of the answers. I think you are way too trusting. Don't base your future around these people, remember Todd was more interested in the car he could afford when discussing Starfield with Elon Musk. He's changed as he's aged and mixed with very very wealthy people and seems to have the excuses all ready to explain why he needs his life style to remain as is, Washington house prices man…. Don't get me wrong, I was playing my modded Skyrim tonight and would be delighted if it is something like. But it's difficult to know who has influenced these games, if it's the bean counters we are in for more wallet gouging.
