The Medium Review-A WARNING For Gamepass!

The Medium just dropped today from Bloober Team. It’s a timed Xbox exclusive and the first for Xbox Series X/S.

So is it good?!?

Well I played it on stream for 3ish hours and it’s…well, heck, I’ll let the video explain.

Main takeaway tho? This game-if nothing else-should serve as a warning for the management at Xbox about how to best handle games for Gamepass.

  1. I'm like 5 hours in Medium and a lot of what you said lined up with my thoughts. Pretty reassuring when it's coming from a veteran game dev! Glad to hear your thoughts on the game.

  2. QUALITY over QUANTITY, I prefer to pay full price for a game that I know would be quality!
VS getting a service that has meh games, and then giving this meh games a pass because I pay a low amount of money for gamepass…… that's a recipe for disaster, it sends xbox executives the wrong massage!
Give us mediocre games, we won't complain because its gamepass!

  3. With gamepass there is no incentive to bring out heavy hitters. Really hope someone at Microsoft is tracking the play time for these games on gamepass. You can't just keep pushing out subpar games and pretend you're good.

  4. Once again, completely agree. My one and only tweet about this game was, “where is the tie clip?!”

The way I described it to someone is it feels like a third person walking sim that a month before shipping someone high up said “we need interactive mechanics”. And so they went through and sprinkled in garbage can pushing and magic shield moments.

  5. I will play this tonight if I get a chance. I already have it downloaded. You bring up a great point. Game Pass makes it easy for gamers to start playing a new game, since its already in the subscription, but its just as easy to lose players if the game doesn't have enough substance. People say Game Pass is filled with fodder games, but the service can't survive much less grow based on fodder. That's why Microsoft is doubling down on content. I want to see where the service is after 3 years, which is when it will start costing me the going monthly rate.

If you have never had Game Pass Ultimate, its worth doing the conversion from 36 months of Gold.

  6. I think gamepass philosophy is to be bite sized fun (drop in drop out, quick achievements) rather than epic scale like what Sony first party is doing. Ultimately most first party/acquired studios (except maybe bethseda games) may go this route

  7. Still not convinced Xbox is the system to get. And I Still dont support the Idea that Xbox is the one to get as David said. I see why the system needs the ability to play more than one game at once. You'll be switching non stop to find something to play.

  8. You guys are funny. You attack him for loving gamepass, now you're rejoicing for his disappointment for his first 3 hour impression. Guess what, the game is good, but not for everybody. You probably have selective memory on the DF episode on this game.

  9. I was watching and not all but a few of the times you got stuck like the tie clip I think you would have found had you not been streaming. Because you were interacting with chat and making jokes you didn't realize it was like the only section you didn't pan the camera. But your point stands that in general games need to be play tested. And microsoft should provide resources in that department when it comes to games they have partnerships with. Because they do have a pool of that for their own first party.
