The truth is that Sims 4 has always had potential–but I wanted to look back to the Sims 4 launch, especially as people lament that the base game is still broken and missing many wishlist items, like an attraction system, family gameplay and more. In review of the Sims 4 in 2021, and looking forward to Sims 5, I found old interviews describing how Sims 4 was rushed, how Sims 4 was impacted by the Sims City debacle, and more. I hope to do a follow up honest opinion and investigation as to why the base game launched without toddlers, pools, and had babies as objects. The goal is to provide not just a wishlist, but what I want to see improved in the Sims for a brighter future.
This comes admit skin tones still being broken and glitchy; a MAC collab controversy, and a new stuff pack being announced for Sims 4.
Stay tuned to Simmer Erin for Sims news, updates, and dlc ranked. I also cover Paralives.

Hello I study Classical Greece, I find it so completely ironic that one of the Sims 4 prototypes was named Icarus because in the legend of Icarus, Icarus was a young boy and his father, in order to escape captivity with his son, made them both wings made of wax and feathers, he told Icarus to not fly too close to the sun, but Icarus was too arrogant and ambitious and wanted to fly higher than the birds, but the sun melted his wax wings and he plummeted and presumably died for his arrogance. I find that the Sims 4 is trying to be too lofty and ambitious without the structure to help keep them flying and I'm worried that they too might melt their wax wings and plummet.
I got a sims 4 survey in my email the other day asing how i feel about multiplayer and competing. I think they are definitely still looking at making an online game. my internet is not reliable enought for that…
I hope they look at videos of gameplay, challenges, and builds. Scrap the BS "smooth experience on any platform", there are 70+ expansions, it's a joke lol.
Keep sims 5 offline, they've had years to understand 3 things; 1) personality from sims 2, 2) stuff to do from sims 3, and 3) build and cas from sims 4 is what people like.
They were disappointed we were commenting on the lack of pool and toddlers at launch instead of what? Be amazed it looked nice on consol? Consol is still a joke too, and so is emotions that was so center of it all in any trailer.
I am messing around a bit with Eco Lifestyle right now trying to make some things. Also building some tiny houses a bit for a challenge.
SimCity 2000, 3000 and then SimCity 4 each of them were great games at their time and each one of them were the betterment of the last iteration until SimCity. SimCity broke my gamer heart. Despite that, when the Sims 4 released I still had a lot of faith in EA and I thought it would be a great game better than its predecessors…oh how wrong was I. The game do have a lot of potential, tremendous potential and the modders are the proof of this, so its not an awful game, but EA and the Sims team makes it an awful one.
If Sims 5 is an online only multiplayer, it WILL end up like Simcity 2013. EA hopefully is not too obsessed with other games' profitability and tried to fit the IP into that. What's more, there's a large modding community to extend the longevity.
Okay, can I start off the video by saying “daaaaaaaaannnnnnggggg! Those people to the left at 0:07 are really well drawn!” I hope that the sims 5 takes on a 3D version of that style. The sims in the sims 4 are to cartoony for my taste and I feel like those characters would caters towards BOTH maxis match and alpha simmers alike. Anyways…. continue. 😌
Sims 4 is really awful to me. I am so glad sims 3 mod community is still kind of active because sims 3 is just such a complete game. Whatever lacking back then, as time passed, modded a have stepped in to make the game better. Like how business unusual mod is making the bistro set functional. The sims team already had three great games in the library, how they made creative choices about sims 4 escapes me.
Tbh, I would really like an online feature on the sims, where I could interact with characters of other people. A lot of people want it too from what I've seen, considering the excitement on a mod that does it.
Also, there are multiplayer games like some mmorpg ones, that work like life sim games, where you can feed, work, marry and have kids, and it works great, even though the focus is on fighting. Not to mention games like animal crossing.
So contrary to popular belief, I think it is possible to make a nice life sim multiplayer game, BUT I don't think EA will. I'm pretty sure EA will try to do it in a mobile style with in game transactions and shitty rushed content, with horrible server support and not true multiplayer (just like the apps, which I don't consider true multiplayer because you can't really interact with other sim's players, just visit them and leave gifts, or something like that)
Lets be real the game should be offline with a online mode were you can play with some friends if u want to, I mean it flopped with Sim City and it will flop again! For a game like Sims online only makes no sense!
I do think sims 5 will be online only cause EA wants it and cares for money and doesn't listen to their fans at all. I love the sims I do but im not gonna trust or be shocked by EA.
Yeah…..I'm just gonna stick with Sims 3…..
I'd love for TS5 to be single player game but with possibility to visit your friends or some "meeting place". Like perhaps bars, clubs etc. that would be hosted online and you can meet there with some new ppl or your friends. But not by making the game simpler or abandoning open world etc.
Sims 4 needs to be open world for free exploration just like sims 3
I don't want any sims game online. But if they want to incorporate online gameplay in sims 5, maybe they could have a venue type called "internet cafe" where that specific lot allows you to have an online experience. You go in, meet up with other players who are also there with their sims, then you leave and you're back offline. But i have no idea if that would even be possible, logistically speaking.
I really hope that is there is a online aspect to Sims 5 that it’s like a world that is all online like a city or a mall. That way everyone has the stuff be compatible but you don’t have to play online all the time.
I would prefer if sims 5 wasn't online, because some people (including me) can get really nervous if their computers act up. But also general online safety like if their was a younger person online.
I really don't want Sims 5 to be online only and I hope that it is much better than 4. I hope they fix 4.
I'm sorry but I laugh at the fact that if you look up 'will sims 5 will be online or multiplayer' it starts with "the feature fans have been waiting for" like I'm sorry, but no, from what I've seen a majority of players just want single-player since they have already messed up making sims online, I also feel like if they made it online it wouldn't really feel like sims, the sims are supposed to a life simulator, so many simmers love playing with families or doing challenges like rags to riches or breed out the weird and I feel if the sims were online a lot of the loved features to play these ways would not exist, of course, there would be simmers who would enjoy an online game, but I really do not think more simmers would want an online game than single-player, personally I feel as if my pc/ internet would not be able to handle an online game and I also really love playing with families but I doubt that would be a feature. I feel like if and/or when they make sims online I feel like it should not be part of the main series and be more of a side game, this is just my opinion, and I'm sorry for ranting haha.
I'm currently enjoying Island Living and Snowy Escape. I like both packs equally as much as eachother. I really like the mermaids and island life in Island Living, and the snowboarding in Snowy Escape (haven't explored much more yet). Island Living and Snowy Escape are my favourite packs.
It depends, Many people wanted vehicles with garages, bunk beds, spiral staircases & improved babies with strollers on The Sims 4.
I really don't want the sims to be online, however one thing I really enjoyed in the sims 3 were the badges on the the exchange if anyone remembers that. You had to be online to complete them. There was no real reason to do them. You get a little badge for completing the achievements. In my opinion those were fun to do, it gave you a little more to work for in your generations when you felt like you were doing the same thing all the time. I would break up my gameplay a little with badge hunting. I wish they would bring back something like that maybe.
I would ONLY be ok with it if there was an option to opt out of it, because if might be a fun change to occasionally play with your friends and create together but they would hurt the sims they force everyone to play together with no option to opt out. It's a life simulation, a sandbox game and everyone has very different play styles. That would not be good to take that away from everyone.
Excited to see more about these online sims 4 versions! I try not to judge sims 5 because I know switching from online to single player is what made Sims 4 so empty to begin with!
I’m hoping Sims 5 will be single player with online capabilities like going to friends houses!
The sims 5 is olympus and the sims 4 is Icarus. I think they will be a bit like each other.. I'm noticing things like worlds and neighborhood plus the gallery 🤔 if sims 5 was like sims 4 but you can load into other people's neighborhood- it would make me feel better about it being separated like that lmao
Sims 4 Olympus aesthetics looks so much more cozier that Sims 4 Icarus's modern look ;3;
Please continue with investigating the history (of what went wrong) of The Sims 4. It's really interesting. As for the future: I really don't like online playing. That would make the game unstable (because of the internet connection needed) and I really don't see the plus side to playing online. Maybe the internet connection is better nowadays (depending on where you live) but the number of people is increased too…… Don't they learn from mistakes in the past, I wonder?
I can't Really play the game now (on console) due to crashes (go to the galerie, Build/buy etc.)
Question of the day:
I’m really enjoying parenthood right now because I just got it and I’m having a lot of fun with creating storyline’s using the character traits
Eco-Living is driving me crazy because when I’m just playing in my normal world and the NAPs which I don’t pay attention to, really annoy me, for example I own a restaurant and one day people just randomly come and start taking the tables then just stand around because they have no where to sit. This happened because I didn’t notice that there was sharing is caring NAP was on right now (yes I did cheat and do an instant repeal).
Also I hate getting fined for not doing things that I’m not paying attention to
I play Sims3. Its a much better experience.
I basically think the sims mobile was basically their original idea of the sims 4
this makes SO much sense, especially in terms of why there is a lacking gameplay/lore to sims 4
I was there in 2013 being a simcity fan and sims fan, Maxis fan. I preordered both games and followed both game developments. I remember guys like Ocean Quigley simcity's creative director quitting EA months after simcity online launched in anger… he was a big part of many sims games before simcity online launched. When simcity online was being developed by Maxis, the sims 4 was also being developed by Maxis the same people where working on both titles. Will Wright and Jeff Braun where the guys who made sims 1 and sims 2 as well many simcity titles, they created Maxis and EA bought them out but kept most of the Maxis team in tact to work on games like simCity societies and sims 3 forwarding the designs Will Wright had already put into effect.
Its been 8 years since simcity online dropped and EA has been good at sweeping things under the rug so doing any research its hard to find names. And I can't remember the guys name that was over citysim online and sims 4 but it was one guy who decided to go online with both titles and EA fired him a couple months after simcity online launched and put Lucy Bradshaw in charge and she was in charge when sims 4 launched but it wasn't her brainchild… and thus began the EA constant firing on game directors, VPs, general managers etc. the sims 4 has had more firing than I can even remember since its launch in 2014.
Simcity online had some server issues but mainly players didn't like you had to join a "neighborhood" just like sims 4 with about 5-6 buildable lots and play with other players via trade, share population, work together in every regard. Players would join the neighborhood build a city then just quit… until you were last living player in neighborhood because other 5 players had left to create(new sims) new city. You as a player were screwed! You couldn't do anything when other players quit half finished and no one wanted to take over their mess of a city! Plus any crime they were having would leak over into your city. It was a complete mess and players were marching with pitchforks held high wanting refunds. Now simcity like sims 4 is a totally offline game! It makes sense because simcity online is basically same layout as the sims 4.
I remember EA talking about sims 4 being online and how players are gonna love working together to build communities and tell stories. lol! I was like NO! I don't want online, I was on the sims 4 forum whining and complaining it was gonna fail… and after simcity online was a failure I knew the sims 4 was gonna suck. Then EA came out with announcement, the sims 4 would be going a new direction and there will not be online option this was LEGIT 1-2 months after simcity came out! So EA had 1 damn year to turn sims 4 from a online simcity online clone to a working single player experience… they failed. Its why we have a crummy base game that feels lifeless.
I mean look at the sims 4, it didn't launch with neighborhood names, it launched with small worlds(good for online), no toddlers(online peer to peer you can't have babies) even kids and teens felt like work in progress when game launched, previous titles felt so much better for family play. There was no family tree, no relationships outside of husband, wife, child, sibling! There was no gallery when game launched because when its online it was left to players to build homes and communities. The entire emotion system is a total online theme, it would have worked well in sims 4 online where you created your emotional space for other players to come over and experience how your sim was feeling/vibing, but single player? it feels bland as hell and boring, a shell. No cars because cars probably didn't feel right when its loading screen after loading screen? The simcity online was loading screens if you wanted to visit another players city in your world or neighborhood it required a loading screen there and back! This wasn't to make the sims 4 a smoother experience it was a predestined because the simcity online works same way! It was a design built for online nothing else. Open world would have never worked in a online game because you would have players playing while you are offline and progressing the world, also why no story progression. Even the graphics are MMO quality this is a bad MMO style just like WoW uses, cartoony graphics are easier to work with when creating a MMO they age better and they're not performance hogs because crappy internet has hard time transferring data in highly demanding MMO games.
I mean I can go on and I preached this on the forums day 1 under the alias Surihtanil EA ban that account and my IP a long long time ago for nothing more than shedding light on their BS. You can look at my gallery or my posts I used this user name through sims 2 and the sims 3 which I owned all content and all store content and supported EA hardcore… then EA IP ban me and for years I couldn't access their forums. I even emailed EA to ask what gives and EA refused to give me the answer why I was ban, just ban is staying in place and have a good day. I am thankful finally other players are stepping up and seeing sims 4 for what it was and is now! EA tried its best to sweep this mess under the rug and shut down players like me from spreading the word and hell even other players on sims forums refused to listen to me then and I am sure I got reported but I was never nasty to other players in any sense and always just straight forward and honestly calling EA out.
Sorry, I wrote my story while holding a 8 month old baby… lol. https://forums.thesims.com/en_US/discussion/911376/the-mundane-life-of-jack-sims somewhere around this post EA ban me. I was only recently unban last summer… out of the blue.
Well I am a part time independent developer, so yes, making a game takes time and money, before you start to invest on that you should know if its going to pay out, I think that that is the main reason why they haven't developed the sims 5
If EA was super, super serious about a Sims 5 online they would hire ALL the Modders for this. Even if they majority were consultants it would help the look and sells most importantly. All those Modders, people have followed for years helping this and perfecting it? People would be running it's a missed chance for them.
It was not delayed ENOUGH? FUCK WHAT?
Gal, you're freaking insane if you're saying that! Why? Because 7 years after the release the game can still only be described as beta. At that rate, with these stupid morons working for Maxis The Sims 4's release date was supposed to be 2040 or even later. The game was not just "not delayed enough". The pretty much opened their notepad++ to write down ideas and the next day launched the thing
Uh, but what do you expect from a company that doesn't care about anything including money, or, as I think, too stupid to realize they don't care about anything
[a little update]
Now I get you're one of the more quieter people, just like anyone out there. But look, what IS good in Sims 4 at this moment? The product is pretty much unplayable, emotions are just worth being deleted at this point as there's so much to manipulate them with.
Some might say that building is amazing? Okay, name me at least one general matching color to decorate the exterior that is not white. In other words, if you want to build with, let's say black (black windows, pillars, fences, stairs, etc) prepare to see half of the official content lacking that color. I simply can't build when the colors I use don't match, meaning to me the entire selling point of a building process goes to waste.
Graphics? I agree, the worlds look good. One question though, are you willing to spend $500 on worlds alone? If you're speaking about good looking CAS then how about explaining the (other) reason why there's so much CC? It's not just because people like modding or they want to express themselves. It's because half of what EA has is unusable. When have you used that scavanger outfit from Get Famous the last time? Or half of the full body suits? Or any of the content from Journey to Fuckuu? People make CC, better outfits, makeup, rings, hair because CAS lacking those.
In conclusion, none of the selling points work for the game anymore, the game is fucked and it's all Maxis stupidity. And I can prove my point to you that in Maxis, EA, whatever work people who have no idea what economics is, as Maxis uses a pretty fucked up strategy that is proven not to work with max efficiency. And hell, I know what game Sims 4 could have become, Maxis just doesn't care, that's all
I thought we had a couple more years on 4? They need to fix this one first this will be my last sims game honestly just really frustrated.
I never played the Sims mobile games and while I realize The Sims Online had cult following with many devoted fans. I do not want to play The Sims online, it will never be an appealing thought to me. So yeah if it did or in the future becomes a full subscription base or online only, I won't be buying.
i think EA just want to have a foot in the online business and since the sims is one of their best selling licence they want to go with it … without realise what the the sims fanbase really need in a sims franchise… I just like creating my own stories in the sims, i like imagine a tons of differents stories for differents sims. I hope we're going to get a choice between online and offline, if not i'm not buying it :/
Me just wanted car, add to haves babie walk and kindergarden
Honestly for the sims 5 I just hope they don’t rush things and make it somewhat detailed. Right now it feels like some of the packs are lacking, the base game itself, skin tones, personality’s, age groups, the list goes on.
