'Serb' is relatively common nickname in Russia. It could reference nationality or past participation in the conflict in former Yugoslavia, but more often than not it is just a nickname. You know like Arnold's character in Predator was called 'Dutch'. Sometimes it is also can be an abbreviation of person surname and/or name.
