A battle-slain warrior, the Valkyries have ferried your soul to Valheim, the tenth Norse world. Besieged by creatures of chaos and ancient enemies of the gods, you are the newest custodian of the primordial purgatory, tasked with slaying Odin’s ancient rivals and bringing order to Valheim.

Was fun, thanks youngster, took me about 20 hrs of gameplay to really get going where you are more focused on discovery than surviving, there are some crazy wilds things in the game as you explore
You're a dead warrior who would otherwise have gone to Valhalla, but since Odin's a dick, he get's the valkyrie to drop you off at the 10th world (aka Valheim) to go kill some enemies that he couldn't manage to handle himself.
Side note, as Valhalla translates to 'Hall of the Slain', Valheim would be 'Home of the Slain', so purgatory is as good a word as any.
I've seen this game on my YouTube suggestions, but I resisted the temptation to check it out until I saw a content creator that I enjoy watching…

"apple juice" …suuuure. lol. i have been following this on another channel for a couple weeks or maybe just 1 idk. anyway it does seem good system/mechanics. you get quests from the raven . and you have to kill bosses and mount their heads on those stones , they will give you a selectable buffs after you place the "trophy". food and drink like mead and aka "apple juice" 🤣 gives you buffs as well. you can tame and raise boars , knock down bee hives then you can place them to get honey for various things like mead. killing bosses unlocks crafting stuff. the 1st boss is a big elk . he unlocks a pick axe so you can gather metal ore. but you will need armor , and deer trophies to summon him. so bow and arrows to kill deer. you can taraform the land with the hoe if i remember right. i thing you and Wiser will like this . there are dungeons you have to go into also. and there are giant trolls . that is the next armor level too i believe . ohh falling trees can hurt you and rolling logs also. good vid

For those that are watching and need a little more early help, here you go:
>You can punch saplings and eventually they will come down to give you more wood. The Axe is both a tool and a weapon, create it first.
>The reason why Liz was missing stuff that she thought she should have is that she did start again, with a new seed, not a new toon. So her test toon became her playing toon, and since she did some of the tutorial already, it doesn't repeat. She would only see the tutorial stuff again if she created a new toon to play.
>You can consume 3 food items at any one time, and they will show up next to your health bar on the lower left. They provide a boost to your HP and your stamina, but have diminishing returns until you can eat again. So early game will be lots of berries, mushrooms and cooked boar meat. You can only eat 1 of each item at a time. So you can eat 1 meat, 1 mushroom and 1 berry.
As for the plot. You were a mighty warrior on Midgard (Earth) and died in glorious battle, but instead of going to Valhalla, Odin has tasked you with dealing with his old foes in Valheim.
Building is a huge part of this game…something I love. So there will be lots of tree chopping and stone crushing. Oh, one last thing. Trees can kill you (don't ask me how I know). When you cut them down, make sure they don't fall on you.

I had the same impression of this game. It is not intuitive and there is some grind.
The story is that you have died as a Viking on Earth and this is Purgatory. You have to earn your place in Valhalla by killing the 5 bosses that Odin has imprisoned here in Valheim. just so you now you haven't been taken from Valhalla (Heaven) but are working to get there.
On day 267 in a co op server. Been a blast. Non linear game and discovery is the word. Your mind has been wiped. Rediscover your past and prove to Odin you are worthy of Valhalla.
Basically what everyone else is saying, but I would suggest you and Wiser stream the boss fights, cave fights, troll fights, and some unique building designs. In between streams, do the grindy things off camera such as leveling skills, gathering resources, farming, or traveling by boat (because the starter raft is SLOWWWW) this is where cut-scenes are your friend if you decide to show some ocean traveling. Explore all the houses in the area and destroy the bee hives for queen bees so you can start a decent sized honey farming area. Oh! After getting the antlers from killing the first boss, you can make a pickaxe, when mining copper which is located in the Black Forest biome, use drop mining (pickaxe all the stones around the copper deposit and underneath) to gather copper the fastest method.
I already at 113hrs in this game got it 9 days ago 🙂
OMG you are dead already, eating is for healing, not food. And the sounds you keep hearing are either deer or just Ambient sounds. And the Greylings were not throwing poop, it was rocks they were throwing. And you could build gasp more than 1 workbench to set up a area to start building your base/house. And it is not 7 days.
A bit late for a comment, but here it is anyway: Hugin is one of the two crows that perch on Odin’s shoulders (the other’s name is Munin) and between them they stand for ‘thought’ and ‘memory.’ I could be wrong, but Someone seems to be watching you. 😉
Sorry, I've been busy, haven't been on as much as I wanted, but getting back to gaming! I just got this game, looked fascinating, and SO glad you're doing it! I will be following this series. Still love my 7 Days though, and Division 2.
I'm glad you're working on it, any game in the Survival/Crafting/Construction genre that has great PR and reviews will also bring interest to other good games in the genre, i.e. 7 Days, and Green Hell is another game I'm taking a SERIOUS look at!
Gak, another game with 'stamina' that is so pathetic. I really wish they would stop with that crap. Supposedly you're a robust freaking Viking you should be able to run for more than 10 seconds without WHEEZING for 2 minutes…ffs. I've watched this with a few people already, Jawoodle has a fabulous time with it, He played it years ago.
All games need 'opposite hand' torch-carrying….ALL GAMES…lol
