Valheim Just Made one of the Biggest Mistakes in Video Game History

Iron Gate Studios recent Patch is an act of legendary folly. Seemingly oblivious to one of the games key selling points, the developers are dialling back on the build mechanics. It’s like they haven’t even noticed that its one of the most popular aspects of the game for many players.

  1. I don't play Valheim.

Perhaps Valheim mislabeled "charcoal" as "coal", since looking up the in-game Recipe, the ingredients very much look like it should be making charcoal, which isn't the same thing as coal.

Though I imagine they make things with that "charcoal" that could only be made with real coal.

  3. "I don't cheese but now I'm upset they removed a cheese" πŸ™„
Yea people are upset, but it's a vocal minority (see this video), as almost always.
Just learn to use the terrain or use console if you want to cheese.

  4. It's such a shame the devs did that. I stopped playing wtf. I see on youtube there was a recent update which tarted up the graphics of the Elder, Bonemass and trolls. They have lost their way no one was playing the game for the graphics!

  5. I got a lot of hate once for even suggesting an optional first person mode in Warframe. I love the game but the third person view in that game is really bad. The avatar blocks out 30-40% of what's going on.

Valheim is at least modable so all you have to do is wait for a mod to "fix" what the devs broke, sucks but what can you do? Also the "performance fix" smells like console version incoming to me.

When Minecraft changed to much for my taste i installed an older version of it.

  6. Remember when sellers were thankful for their customers?
Now, customers are thankful for companies selling them stuff… Sometimes unfinished, broken and overpriced stuff…

I just think that Western civilization misses religions and jump on any occasion to replace religion with a brand, a dev or even a crypto-currency…

  7. this shit gets on my nerve so god damn much. These shitters that blindly follow the narratives need to be used as a vehicular stopping mechanism.

  8. Some people fail to understand the value proposition of early access. We give cash for an unfinished game and we get to voice our opinions on how they should finish it. Valheim is an amazing game and I have played the hell out of it. But there are going to be some developer decisions that I won't agree with going forward and I absolutely feel it is fair play to provide my opinion on those decisions…you know since I financed it across the finish line.

  9. Way to fucking murder your game, Iron Gate. I was looking forward to fixing my PC to play this game but fuck me sideways I'm not gonna spend the entire game I'm there just to get enough wood and stone for a fucking hovel.

  10. I completely agree with you mate.

During my main playthrough I went on massive buildathons (500+ hrs) using the hoe to convert islands and the hoe was a key tool for the initial foundation work. I took a break after beating boss 5 and yesterday went to help a friend on a build (the first time back on since the update), creating something similar to my island fortress and oh my days, the raise function is utter trash now, almost to the point where, like you said, you either have to quadruple the prep grind or sack of raising and just scrap the island and settle for a mountain flatten project instead, which was not the plan we had set up for. Why should we settle?! It was great how it was.

I then went to check my base and oddly, my base now lags, which it didn't before.. in a really noticeable way, it's almost like a punishment for me building so much with the 'broken' version of the mechanics. Shame on me clearly.

Overall very dissapointting change and I too will not be returning properly I don't think, they may change course. I will be watching intermittantly.

  11. It was a stupid change. It has forced me to build on hills and dig out everything around it. Your plains " island" base looks really nice. I admire your dedication to complete it with this new mechanic.

  12. Reddit? This one already just another part of "social" media for years and only good for killing brain cells. Or I am wrong? It's me or all "social" site gravitating to 4ch style of existence – only select corners are… sensible.

  15. Most devs dont understand THE basic of all of gaming. once you "publish" your game, it becomes part of the public. it is not THEIR game, it is a part of everybody playing it. if you do things for YOU, dont publish the game, play it alone in your cellar. same with mojang. they wont implement a lot of things the community wants because it does not fit "their vision". who the fuck do they think they are? who brought them there? the community buying their game, why not give something back?

  16. This is such a disappointment. What is the point in making players grind even more? As awesome as the game is theres not a massive amount of content outside of building.
Also props on that house with the docks, that looks awesome. I'd stewl the idea if I didnt think it would take me forever now πŸ˜‚

  17. I was with you until the "charcoal" part. You can make charcoal from wood (or other organic materials such as leather) in a kiln. It works by heating wood in an oxygen-poor environment, which causes organic molecules to break down and carbonize. You can try making some. Take a cookie tin or other metal container, put some small pieces of wood inside, close the lid, poke a couple holes to let gases and water vapor to escape, and put the tin in a fire. Let it cool, and you'll get yourself some charcoal.
