Personally, I feel the best all around weapon towards the endgame is the black metal sword, especially against fulings. Not only is it the fastest weapon with highest slash damage, but porcupine and frostner both having blunt causes enemies to get pushed back while trying to do the 3 hit combo usually on either the 1st or 2nd hit.
The sword allows you to do the full 3 hit combo without having to move further towards the enemy, whereas the blunt weapons usually blow back enemies in the first or second hit and you have to keep moving as they get blown back. Since fulings are mostly 3 hits to take them down it's nice to do it fast and quickly without having to chase them down.
Porcupine is my second favorite since it's badass, but coming up on 340 hours playing solo, I now just bum rush fuling camps and the porcupine causes me to get hit alot more whereas the sword is quick as hell and dealing with up to 10 fulings at once I need the most efficient I can get.

Iron Slege is probably my current favourite at the moment, however I'm not farming plains biome to feel how ineffective it is yet. Just the act of swinging it and seeing ice shockwaves feels so good!
Definitely not worth it to upgrade the Frostner once you’ve obtained it. It only improves your frost damage and nothing else. If you have lots of silver and dont mind at all, no problem ofc.
