What is Escape from Tarkov?

I received a lot of question on what this game actually is and what’s the story behind it, so I decided to make a little video in which I attempt to explain everything …

  1. I love the game but because it’s so hard core I had to take a break. Mostly because they haven’t had new maps in while so I’m waiting for that. That being said after watching the last couple of vide you’ve done on Tarkov, I might get backing into it. Great video, keep up with the good work.

  2. What region in the Russian Federation is where the action taking place? Who commands the sky? Armor support? To me it seems a B-52 strike would solve the problem. This looks like a RU version of CoD.

  4. Been watching your twitch and YouTube channels for years. WOWs has left me wanting and you turned me on to Tarkov. I started casually playing this game a few weeks ago: currently level 6. A lot of practice in offline, a lot of getting my ass handed to me. Today I manage my first player kill…more chance than skill cause he was level 31; and he was loaded.

  5. This is probably the best description of Tarkov ever. It's very real. It's not exaggerated it's not fake it's real. It's true. It's said and written by someone who has put time into this game. As someone who has played this game for a little over 3 years now I appreciate this vid thanks will be sharing with people

  6. So if I understood correctly, basically if you went to battle with the demo setup you showcased and died, you would have lost everything on you – your gun, armor, meds… – except your special case? Isn't it too expensive or grindy to have to constantly rebuy your gear? Is money a rare resource or can you earn a decent amount? And is it worth to tweak your ideal weapon for half an hour with that perfect grip and sight and stock if you would eventually lose it for good to some random Scav…?
Your explanation was really good but I feel like there are still so many questions left unanswered. Most of them boil down to: how punitive is the game for an average player and how steep is the learning curve?

  7. wow, not gonna lie, I'm a WOWS viewer, and I have tarkov but am sorta kinda scared of playing it, too difficult for me I think, but this was a really good video on it to give players a perspective of what to expect when they buy this. Thanks Flam

  8. Right now, Escape From Tarkov is a $60 waste of time beta test. Don't get me wrong, the gameplay is incredible. But there is no incentive to play right now other than the sheer euphoria of surviving firefights and extracting safely with ALL the loot.

EoT needs three major changes going forward to be more engaging and accessible.

First, player scav runs need to be overhauled so that your scav becomes a persistent character that levels up alongside your PMC. This means that you still head into raids with randomized equipment, but it also means you don't necesarilly lose everything you spent a fortune on if you happen to die due to extract campers or the broken aimbot AI that just happened to spawn right behind you (yes, this happens on Customs a lot in places you'd think were good to take care of yourself for a minute but turn out to be scav spawn points).

Second, lore is better than loot. A story progression that includes an overhaul and rebalance of the trader missions needs to be introduced that gives players a reason to progress through the maps in a particular order searching for special equipment or important lore items that advance you to the next map. This cna be wrapped up as a way to reward players with the next tier of secure container and takes the emphasis away from "kill 5 scavs, grab two shotguns" as a trader tier mission type.

Third, there needs to be a reason to choose BEAR or USEC and consequences for doing so in-raid. For example, BEAR is allied with BEAR and rewards players for spontaneous teamwork rather than spontaneous firefights. Right now, there is enough loot on each map for players to extract profitably each raid… if they work together and share their kills proportionately. This also allows Scav bosses to become more of a focal point for teamwork since both factions will want what the bosses have (perhaps for particular lore missions???).

Overall, I like how the game plays, I hate how the game punishes you for playing fairly and rewards you for playing dirty. Now, if my BEAR sees USEC, he's going to take that bugger down; but I don't want my BEAR to be forced to fight other BEARs because your faction is purely cosmetic right now. The game is not in a good place, nor is it in a bad one. The game is very much a buy-in beta test with excellent gameplay and terrible character progression. It can be massively improved while adding to the lore and becoming more accessible to players of all skill levels.

  9. Thanks for the explanations, I have watched you play it and all I was getting was that the game is basically 'Wham, Bam Thank you mam' type play. more interesting now, lol.
In a general way your explanation is also fitting for another game I play 'Eve Online' watching someone play that is like watching a random video from you tube without context, but once you understand the why's then you then appreciate what you are seeing. That game can also be extremely hard to play and challenging. Also has a learning cliff which kills off most new players, lol.
