What Makes Valheim So Good (And Why You Should Play It)

Valheim is a brand new exploration survival game set in a procedurally generated, Viking inspired world. The game released just a few weeks ago and has exploded in popularity since. Today we take a look at the reasons why.

Vlaheim is a brutal exploration and survival game for 1-10 players, set in a procedurally-generated purgatory inspired by viking culture. Battle, build, and conquer your way to a saga worthy of Odin’s patronage!

Key features:
– Huge procedurally-generated world – explore and inhabit mystical lands, from mysteriousforests to imposing snow-topped mountain ranges and stunning meadows, complete with their own creatures of legend to battle and wildlife to hunt.

– Co-op PvE (2-10 players) – – Whether you want to brave the lands alone or venture with trusted allies, Valheim supports independent, player-hosted servers and unlimited world creation. We recommend playing co-op with 3-5 players.

– Punishing dodge & block based combat system with a wide range of weapons

– Build & sail ships – from flimsy rafts to imposing warships, build legendary vessels to conquer the seas and discover new lands.

– Summon and defeat vengeful primordial bosses of myth and legend, and collect trophies to progress and craft new powerful items

– Flexible house and base building system – raise mead halls, farms, settlements outposts, castles and more.

– Intuitive item crafting – forge the finest weapons and armour, and craft food and mead.

– Dedicated server- for players who want to run a persistent server. If you prefer not to run a server on your PC, consider renting a server at G-Portal.

  1. The game is awesome! Though I do hope they make the combat much snappier and precise. Feels like the arrows for example travel from your feet, they are delayed after your release and they have a huge hitbox, making it hard to shoot around objects. Melee combat is just very sluggish. Overall the combat is pretty terrible.

  2. This is basically Fallout76 but without guns. Bad graphics although still beutifull at times. Building awesome structures and killing bosses. To be honest id rather play FO76. weird ay. I mean the combat looks crap and the AUI for the enemies that arent bosses are pretty shit like FO76 why isnt everyone swarming back to FO76. ROFL maybe people are just pissed at bethesda.

  3. It only took me about 60 seconds of watching gameplay on day 1 of release to know this was a game I wanted. 80+ hours later, I'm still not remotely bored and there's still things I haven't even come across yet. I can't recommend this game enough. Buy it. Get your friends to buy. Get killed by a falling tree. Enjoy.

  4. When a game is good on the early access, i instantly fear that developers will stop working on it due to getting success/money already they planned. It has happened quite a few times and games did not get much new content since it already sold enough. I hope this one wont be like that.

  5. I have put about 140 hours into this game, and have multiple bases on 3 different continents, one of which is a castle. This game does have a way to go in the polish department, but I am 100% satisfied with my purchase. It is worth more than $20 in its current form. Everything else they create will be gravy on top.

  6. I still don't understand the hype for this game after having watched this video. It seems like literally every other open world survival game I've ever played or seen, but it has elements of Skyrim and Dark Souls blended in. Plus, the graphical polish leaves a lot to be desired; game looks kinda ugly aesthetically. Not impressed. Β―_(ツ)_/Β―

I'm sure it's a decent game, but it truly seems to me that this is just the latest iteration of the same old open world survival game model with nothing particularly ground-breaking to offer. I'll pass.

  8. A week before my friend told me about it I was bored out of my mind. Now I sink alot of hours into Valheim and i enjoy every minute of it. 20USD well spent. Every day is an adventure and I'm discovering my unknown building skills.

  9. i really dont understand why people like this game, and you have not helped me to understand why.. like an example is you say about biomes and you're like "all the different biomes have different plants and animals and things!"… and it's like… yeah… that's what i biome is? so what is different??
same with everything.. "he shoots these things at you"… like.. yeah… monsters shoot things at you?? that's not exactly novel?

  10. For anyone concerned about "early access", don't be. I've got about 40 hours so far, and have yet to see a single instance of anything I can honestly call a bug. It feels more polished than most AAA titles years after release (Fallout? -no Todd, it doesn't "just work")

It could be missing some functionality that's planned, but it doesn't feel unfinished at all, just a few things that make you think, "you know, it would be nice if I could…."

  11. I like that you can move your character between different seeds, so even if they release new biomes you can start on another map with the same gear and levels. The way this game drip-feeds progress feels really good and flexible, you're always improving in some way.

Here are some basic tips if you're starting out:
-You don't stave in the game but eating food temporarily raises your max health and stamina as well as healing you over time.
-Go out of your way to kill deer and boars, their drops are very useful.
-There are different types of wood that unlock new crafting options, try cutting down pine, birch and oak trees when you're able.
-Before you start getting into mining build a cart, ore is super heavy and the cart has no weight limit.
