Why We Love Valheim

This is my final video on Valheim before we get new content…But I loved almost every second of my 55 hours with the game. If I was a builder , I’d likely have 100+ by now but I’m more of a content and done kind of game.. This is basically my love letter to Valheim, game was an absolute banger and likely will be for years and years to come.

A brutal exploration and survival game for 1-10 players, set in a procedurally-generated purgatory inspired by viking culture. Battle, build, and conquer your way to a saga worthy of Odin’s patronage!

  1. Being new to the genre but no stranger to terraria I've been absolutely loving the game. I run what used to be good and now would be considered an entry level PC and honestly its amazing considering the game file is like less than 3GB.
I have been playing almost 100% solo except for when I've been unable to retrieve my lost gear. Its definately a game Im in no rush to finish, I enjoy building so that keeps me entertained.

Shout out to the subreddit r/valheim
it has some of the most quality gaming memes I've ever seen the community is just so creative.

  2. @Kira

I truly believe this is a great game but I'm wondering if the label "survival game" really applies. It has a few, basic survival elements but so do many RPG games and you wouldn't call them a survival game.

It's not necessarily a big gripe, it's just one I've been debating about: this game feels like an exploration sandbox with little RPG and survival elements mixed in and a decent crafting system on top of it. Would you agree?

  3. The last survival game that sold millions in EA that i supported was scum, glad to see valheim is a better game over all. Scum doesnt suck, its just not as good of a product……. similar craze for it tho.

  4. I got bored playing solo after 5 hours. Biomes just felt the same and nothing really motivated me to even kill the first boss. Idk how to get into it. That said, I've played Minecraft for 1000+ hours o.o

  5. Me and two friends went exploring far into a swamp in a longship. The longship was destroyed and i died so i sailed a raft from miles away to my friends to rebuild the boat and rescue them. Just organic fun

  6. You could've just shown the footage of you running like a bitch away from these goblins with torches and the second you jump down and kill one you instantly succumb to being burned to death while the goblins step over your corpse to start fucking up random piles of straw 10/10 going to buy now

  7. I am obssesed with this game! The only thing I would like to see changed is how you get iron. You need iron for more weapons, armor, and crafting stations than any other resource, but it's the most annoying to get. The swamp is easily my least favorite biome.

  8. This shows that getting the basics right is so important. No point having all the bells & whistles when the base game is a clunky mess. It reminds me of wow in that it didn't do anything new, but did everything right.
Given that this game was mostly the work of one guy, it shows even more what a scam games like Chronicles of Elyria and Camelot Unchained are.

  9. 300+ hours in playing solo, only defeated 2 bosses and I've enjoyed every minute of it. The exploration, the building aspect, the solid and satisfying combat, the atmosphere all keep me immersed in the game and I'm in no rush to finish it. Honestly one of the most enjoyable games I've played for absolute years and all for just over £ 15, its a gem of a game.

  10. I have put thousands of hours into the survival/builder genre – ARK, Conan, Rust, Minecraft, Life is Feudal, Atlas, probs more i'm forgetting… Maybe my expectations for Valheim were set too high due to the viral hype, but I was expecting it to be really good and I think it's just ok… it's not a bad game by any means, but it's also not better than other survival games i've already played, it's not really doing anything new… Feels like more of the same to me, so i'd rather just play other games i've already put a lot of time into. I don't want to play a new game just because it's new, I want new games to improve on the existing formula. That's just my opinion, maybe this game is just not for me and that's ok. Clearly a lot of others enjoy it as it's dominating the steam charts.

  11. One thing that amazed me about the game was the building. This is honestly the first survival game that has made me actually think how I’m going to build with the stability system.

  13. Totally agree. Deliver what you promise, show that there is passion for the game that they are developing, and don't break your promises unless it is justifiable. Valheim is a gem amongst Early Access games, which are often buggy unplayable messes. The devs deserve every penny.

  14. Just imagine what the modding community will do with this game. One of my friends who is a computer engineer, who never ever made a mod in his life, actually wrote a code that allowed us to smelt continuously while near a forge. He said the code of the game was so simple that it was just a few hours worth of task. And he said he was pretty slow. I think sky is the limit after a full release and a Steam workshop support. Then we can hit 3k hours played each 😀

  15. I tried hard to get it but I just can't, every thing feels so cheap, but glad that many people like it.
Cuz I was dry of surv games, after Valheim personal failure I started play Subnautica and I'm having 100 times better time than Valheim.
