Ninja's Opinion of Competitive Fortnite – My Response

Ninja’s Opinion of Competitive Fortnite in Chapter 3 Season 1. On Ninja’s Twitch Stream yesterday he gave his opinion of Fortnite Competitive as a whole, with some good opinions on how Toxic and unprofessional the scene is. I reacted and respond to these claims and give a full analysis.

  1. I’m a good player and I play other shooter games and I’m having more fun this chapter than chapter 2 which I quit playing BR because of computers and SBMM.
I don’t like playing competitively because trying so hard to get a single kill is boring and repetitive. I’m somewhat glad that the shotguns aren’t as good because I don’t like going against players that only know how to build, edit and only knows how to hit their shots with shotguns and nothing else. The SMG is good for putting pressure on your opponents so they don’t heal or run away. Just because someone is holding down the trigger doesn’t mean they are “spraying and praying” especially when they know how to hit their shots with it.

Just because you got killed by someone who is as good as you are with building and editing doesn’t mean they’re bad because a lot of really good players never learn how to fight against people who use SMGs so every time they get killed by someone who uses an AR or SMG and they complain about them “spamming” is just an excuse to why they have no skill when it comes to fighting against players with SMGs.

To all the people who are complaining about the AR still you just need to quit the game because the MK-7 is not as good anymore and you guys need to understand that shotguns aren’t the only guns in the game so quit complaining about people “spamming”.

  2. Quick correction for one thing I noticed you said, the Drum Gun was brought back at the end of chapter 1 season 8, not chapter 1 season 10. And while Ninja does make amazing points, I don't think casual play being the majority of the player base means it's ok to have no item balance. I can't even do a basic triple edit, that's how much of a casual I am. However, it's gotten to a point where it's not even fun to kill with the Stinger, MK7, Grenade Launcher, or Heavy Shotgun anymore. It's not like me playing low ground smart in pubs against people who are trying to do constant edit courses, I just knock them down with a Grenade Launcher or spray weapon or get a ton of damage with a Heavy Shotgun shot. It's not fun because it doesn't feel earned. It's like when I used the mechs and UFOs, the weapons are so terribly unbalanced that it doesn't feel rewarding to kill someone with them because even if you would've killed them in a balanced meta, the kill just feels undeserved with such a broken weapon. People have fun when there's a challenge they overcome through means such as their intelligence or skill, not when they easily fly through everything without effort. That's what bores people and makes them move to other games. When the meta is as unbalanced as it currently is, nothing feels fun or rewarding, which is why this season has the highest quit rate since around season 11. People argue "oh, just don't use the broken weapons." I can see why someone would make that argument because, on paper, it seems like a solid rebuttal. However, in practice, these weapons are so overwhelming to the point where you have to use them if you don't want to get run over by them. Yeah, I'd love to use a weapon as fun and balanced as the Ranger, but unfortunately, it's completely invalidated in every way by the MK7 and you don't have a legitimate chance to win if you take the Ranger over the MK7.

  3. look, comp:

    -edit each others builds

    casual:

    -remove turbo building

you can literally laugh at this post all u want but im so willing to die on this hill that i am correct.

  4. I understand that they must cater to both casual and competitive player, but what I don't understand for the past 2 years is that why can't they split loot pools? There isn't any harm in that 🤷. having smg fire faster in casual, while lower damage and lower fire rate in comp will make it so much better.

  5. Epic nerfing the Spider-Man mythic in competitive only is a huge step in the right direction to fix this imbalance between competitive and casual imo. Huge opportunity to please both communities by having mostly different loot pools + weapon attributes in both comp and casual. Similar to how they added siphon in competitive only, it can be done and I hope we see more changes in competitive playlists only in the future. I personally don’t see a downside to this? Great video as always Reiss!

  6. Another day another banger from Reisshub. I have NEVER had regrets from watching one of your videos. You only put out solid content and that's exactly what keeps me coming back for more.

  7. We need to have both communities, but imo, arena really needs to be made more attractive to casual players that are in between full casual and full comp.

I genuinely want to play arena, but because of the fact that there are the mythics in and overall just the stupid crap from pubs, it makes me not want to play since I’ll still be going against players that should be my skill level but clearly aren’t.

If I’m going to have to put up with stupid crap in the game, I might as well play with a mixture of AI and players of varying skill levels rather than having to play with people who clearly only play creative and arena all day.

  8. This video is how I’ve been feeling recently! For example my friends have gotten back into Fortnite, but now when I play comp I’ve been putting in tons of hours in creative and now I get shit on only when I get sprayed/:

  9. From my perspective (casual player) I kinda agree with ninja like a casual player can't play a game without a pro just shits on him. I as a casual player cannot see where the skill based match is, for example one week ago I was playing fortnite wen a sweat doing triple edits and all Uncessary edits and by just looking at it I quit the game.Like wen there is a competitive modes such as arena I personally don't understand y they had to introduce skill based match making. We can't get a win without sweating our butts off and after going for a kill there is going to be a player with the smgs. For fortnite they really need to listen to the community a little more. Wen sypherpk started standing up against skill based match making they(the company)completely misunderstood it and added almost all bots and if u were a casual player in a squad u were gonna win because every1 in the game were bots. Talking about the spary matter it just gives a casual player a chance to kinds compete head to head against a pro player. Its like the introduction of mechs into the game. Taking that Into consideration epic games shouldn't have removed the tac shotgun because if u r a casual (personally) u r bound to miss alot of shots

  11. Talking about spray meta specifically. It's fun for casuals. It's fun because it's really easy to do and will get you kills and wins. But it being easy is the exact reason why it's so annoying competitively. It's not competitive. There is no skill gap that is separating the top tier pros who deserve to be in the FNCS finals from the players who are relying on one really broken thing. Unknownxarmy would be a really good example. Obviously, he was a great player, not denying that, but his meteoric rise to the top can be explained quite a bit by the meta at the time (spray), as well as legacy aim assist. As soon as those things changed he just quickly dropped off the map to where he probably should be, which is a mid to high level cash cup player. By comparison, you have a player like clix, whose rise can be explained by the fact that he was innovating and creating an entirely new playstyle (piece control and box fighting) that had never been seen before and is still the current meta 2 years later. He was relying on just a better understanding of the game, whereas unknown was relying on an easy meta that he was just able to perfect. And for the record, not really a fan of either player, nor do I hate either, they just seemed like the easiest comparisons to make.

  12. You lost me at “this game is one of the highest skill ceiling ever” and then go to compare the game to warzone. You really give off the vibe that you have played games for 5 years maybe even less. I do respect your opinion but I don’t think you have the knowledge, age or common sense to compare this game to any other game. Fortnight == warzone. Where’s the logic. Just because the game has big prize pools doesn’t mean that it demands pure skill. It’s quite disrespectful to compare this game to legimate hero’s of esports across all genres

  13. i respect the view but i dont fully agree with it. yes complaining doesnt help at all but i think pros take it to twitter to vent out their frustration rather than to ask epic to make a change, since they know that asking them nicely will be to no avail. not really sure about this tbh would love to see other peoples views on this

  14. Let's be real right now, Fortnite isn't a competitive game. I'll explain myself, this game isn't competitive so can I win FNCS? No I can't cause i'm not good enough. The challenge in this game is the insane skill of the top 2000 players compared to the rest of the player base.
Guns have always been unvalanced, in every season, always. Loot have always been unbalanced during the years (50% chest spawn, no heals, insane amount of snipers, fishing rods, and no shields)
The only thing that makes this game competitive is the skill of the players.
If you compare FN to CS, or even LoL you can see what i mean, your skill matters in every game but at least in LoL/CS you don't get exploited in cause of a crashpad/ shockwave/ spiderman, you don't have to deal with some maniac 50/50 you for a grey smg on a roof…
All these bullshits that make the game fun ruin competitive, we have semi-auto snipers that hit for 80 in the chest, you can't even 1 shot with sniper hs… Are we talking about comp? When you see most of the pros using visual sound effects can you still talk about comp? It's really the only game i know with such a bad footstep audio…
Love the game and still play it, but don't tell me it's a competitive game..

  15. i think the problem that people have is just the lack of communication between epic and the competitive community. if they gave some sort of reason why they are keeping the smg so powerful in comp or why they put all of fncs in 1 week, we would be a little more understanding.

  16. I think ninja makes some good points especially when he talks about when pros swear and are toxic towards epic. If you were a pro player for a sport like football, basket ball soccer, skiing that could get you disqualified from the competition because it’s completely unprofessional but the problem with esports is it’s hard to draw a line like that because they can’t hear what you are saying all the time. In the end Pros need to be more respectful.

  17. Competitive players have been saying this is the worst season ever, for most casuals its one of the best so much content, having fun, easy meta, its been great. I understand both sides, comp thinks its frustrating to go against spray meta and would prefer box fight meta, but you they gotta keep up

  18. I'm a new player, started playing Fortnite a month ago and wanted to ask is there a way to have the same map, but only me in it? Cause I love the game, but hate being killed by someone while I'm just having fun with the wolves or something.
