Outriders has announced it’s coming to Xbox Game Pass (console and mobile only) with just two weeks to go until launch. It’s a wild development that is pretty surreal, but really stands to benefit everyone, players, the developers and Microsoft itself, with another big fish landed.

  1. No emergency button just doing the smart move that most developers will do going forward!!!… entering on a great platform with a great following that's taking over the industry!!.. no emergency about it I think you'll see most games start doing this as time goes on!!

  2. There is a market of people who will buy this game. Via PC and console. Now there’s a market of users who never were going to play this game. Like me. Now, I will be playing this game. And I’ll probably buy the game sometime in the future. Who knows how long the game will be on GamePass.

  3. Pretty high risk they take. Sure, they obviously got a bunch of money for that, but that's for the cost of potential full retail sales which might could end up higher compared to for what they currently got from MS. So the question is: were pre-orders so low that Square took the offer?…

  4. It is a demo… it is literally for trying the game out. You can't blame them for deciding to change marketing stance. Nobody forced you to spend 30 hours in DEMO of yet to be released game.

  5. Yeah, not getting Outriders. Maps look bland and the game has an overall unappealing art style. I would have put hours into it if it was on Game Pass for PC, but honestly it doesn't bother me because my guess is it's dead in a year or two.

  6. Lots of progress on PC I don't want to lose. Honestly, the PC version already has enough advantages over XBOne that I would only be conflicted if I had an XBSX. In particular item marking on console is painfully slow.

  7. Seems fair considering Sony has lock down most Square Enix future projects. And it’s gonna be like a Fantasy Gears, very suitable for the Xbox ecosystem.

  9. 20-30 hours total? I spent that and more grinding on a single character for legendary drops, only to not get any. I'm at 90+ between all 4 characters and still the only legendary I've gotten was a random drop from a crate when that character was level 5 in WT 3 or 4.

Actually seeing it written out like makes me realize just how much time I spend in games like this. Outriders, D2, Div2, FFXIV. I think I may need to go back to single player RPGs for awhile.

  10. I was really interested in outriders before the demo. By the time the demo came out I was not interested at all and haven’t played it. I wouldn’t have bought it. But this way I’ll probably try it now.

  11. I did PREORDER, I canceled this morning, now I will play for free. I'm getting my money's worth with game pass ultimate. I can get the ranger pack for 10% off, so they're still going to make some money, which I don't mind at all, considering!

  12. I don’t understand how this is an emergency button press 🤷🏼‍♂️ It’s just another great pickup for gamepass . There is no loss for anyone, only a win for gamepass console subscribers . Everyone who wanted it can still get it & 18 million people can give the full game a try for essentially free

  13. I think Microsoft craps with bricks of gold so they are fine. It does not change the fact that it was a little to late to announce this. It should be done the moment demo got released.

  14. they likely had the framework of a deal in place dependent on the early adoption/popularity of the game. with it getting pushed back (and the success of the demo) likely gave Microsoft/xbox enough insight to agree to greenlight the deal. This also helps secure revenue for PCF which has been clearly stated as a requirement for potential DLC.

  15. PS Now could be a GamePass equivalent if they didn't do such a poor job with it (however, PS+ obviously makes up for this by being vastly superior to Games with Gold these days). Like yeah, PSNow's like Stadia (or something?), but the games are streamed @ 1080p & you can tell, especially if it's a PS3 or an Early-PS4 title. Downloading doesn't mitigate the issue entirely, bc the selection on PS Now changes way more frequently than GamePass. Most importantly, it doesn't do what GamePass does – in terms of "Every Exclusive MS Game / Every Game that Launched on GamePass will (seemingly) remain on the service indefinitely." Notice how Senua's Saga, BattleToads, Streets of Rage 4, Blair Witch, The Outer Worlds, Outer Wilds, Forzas, Halos, Gears, Oris, The Medium, etc., alongside other "less beloved / less successful" Exclusives like ReCore Definitive Edition, Crackdown 3, Bleeding Edge have never left GamePass. Only certain 3rd Party games cycle in and out (for example Wolfenstein 2, which for some strange reason did not return with all the Bethesda titles this weekend…?).
Point being, you're RIGHT, Sony doesn't have an equivalent, but it seems like they could… I honestly think it's down to knowing their install base will not give a damn about PS Now, and will be more interested in PS+, and Now is just there for Xmas buyers, or casuals, whatever. Obviously only GamePass would suddenly be like "Yeah that brand new game OUTRIDERS, the one we don't have the Publisher or Dev in our stable? GamePass, Day One. Because we're that cool" lol.
It's quite interesting actually, because I wouldn't have bought OUTRIDERS, but now I'll probably play through the whole thing, because it's on GamePass!

  16. Aaand that's why you shouldn't preorder…. Too bad it didn't come to PC too. Also not too much pity on people who way over-invested in the demo of a non-competitive game. Getting a head start on content just means content is less challenging and enjoyable.

  17. I bought it and il stick by my purchase. If the Devs are as honest and open about everything like they have been il support them. I don't mind if it comes on gamepass afterthe fact. Just means even more people to play with and we all win.

  18. I absolutely was not going to pay $60 for Outriders. I wasn’t completely sold on the demo. I mean, I was entertained, but not $60 worth of Entertained. But I’m more than willing to play it on Game Pass.

  19. The game new securing a huge upfront payment I’ll be shocked if we don’t see any dlc…but could this mean there will be some Xbox exclusive content with this deal?

I really hope we get some info on why this happened
