Well it’s kind of bizarre to be saying this in the middle of June, but I am SO OVER THE MOON proud (and relieved!) to be able to introduce a PS22 CHORUS OF 2021!!! Between the masks, the 8-10 feet spacing of the kids, and the fact the kids only started singing together a few weeks ago, no other group in PS22 history has had tougher obstacles to overcome in order to put over a performance. However to simply say they “put it over” would be a massive understatement and an insult to their efforts. They absolutely SLAYED! The elation we’re all feeling to be back in that auditorium is electrifying the singing with a positive charge that is thoroughly inspiring to their conductor. (Pun maybe slightly intended.)
The song is “VIDEO GAME” by one of my musical heroes, Sufjan Stevens, and has been one of the kids’ favorites to sing this school year. Interestingly, when we were discussing the lyrics, some of the kids said that the song reminded them of remote learning – that was the “video game” they did not want to play. We added a little nod to that in our presentation, as I was impressed by that pretty ingenious analogy.
The beautiful duet must be acknowledged as well, and is provided by Isabella and Haifa (in order of appearance)! They knock it out of the park….
I am happy to report that you will see ALL the kids’ faces maskless in our graduation performance which will be premiering here on Wednesday, June 23, and that’s one you will NOT want to miss….
