Outriders vs Gears of War | Direct Comparison

Direct Comparison of Square Enix and People Can Fly’s new cooperative RPG shooter, Outriders – and how it stacks up visually and from a gameplay perspective to the most recent entry to the Gears of War franchise, Gears 5.

I looked into comparing Outriders to Destiny, but aside from some familiar menus and systems – they are fundamentally different games altogether. Outriders feels much more like an RPG spinoff of Gears of War.

This makes sense because People Can Fly were the creators of “Gears of War Judgement” several years ago.

This video was created using a high-end PC, but even still – Outriders suffers from some significant performance and technical problems. It stutters constantly, disconnects frequently kicked me out of the game back to the menu, and I couldn’t even go back to record normal sound comparisons because of the poor server stability.

  1. Just a quick note I didnt mention here: outriders does have a snowy environment as well. I just couldnt record it because the servers being dead kept me from playing more yesterday afternoon.

Still, my point stands. Gears has better variety overall

  2. I'm playing both games on Game Pass and I can confirm that are similar. for me, Gears 5 works better because it's simpler and just more arcade fun. after having completed Cyberpunk 2077, I'm ok for now with vast and complex RPG-looter games

  3. Shadows should get sharper when you walk away from light source. Unless you're talking about laser.

That is why we get almost sharp shadows on Earth. If the sun was only 3000 km away like some people say we would have blurry shadows.

  4. totally dont agree with the graphic and art style comments in the video, Outriders looks like a true square enix game, While gears is just totally diffirent and more realistic. same thing with the voice acting etc, it was done on purpose like that, and the story is actually way above decent for a looter shooter. for me its a 8.5 out of 10 , i dont even see it as flawed, its a flawed gem, a diamond in the rough that will get better with time, like all looter shooters and mmorpgs

  5. The reduced detail of Outriders seems proportional to the increase in size of the world compared to Gears. Frankly, compared to other games like Red Dead Redemption 2 and Ghost of Tsushima Gears of War should have much more detail for the tiny areas you are stuck in. It is about data management. Size wise and detail I'm impressed with Assassin's Creed Odyssey especially since I've been able to climb and go anywhere which means there has to be real geometry present instead of facades. Gears is not a good gold standard.
